About this file

This document is a comprehensive specification guide for constructing an all-metal fence, referencing the interagency Fences document from February 1999 and the Montana Fish, Wildlife, and Parks Department's Landowners Guide to Wildlife Friendly Fences. The specifications detail precise requirements for fence construction, including H-braces, T-posts, and inline metal posts, with specific guidelines for post dimensions, spacing, and installation methods.

The wire spacing specifications outline two fence configurations: a three-wire design with wire heights at 18", 28", and 42" from the ground, and a four-wire design with wire heights at 18", 24", 30", and 42". The top wire is specified as barbed, while the bottom wire is smooth. Key technical details include using 7' to 8' posts with 3' underground, heavy-duty T-posts installed every 16', and inline metal posts every 10th T-post or 160', with flexibility in pipe diameter and installation techniques like welding or drilling and clamping.
