1.0 GENERAL INFORMATION

1.1 Background: The USDA, NCAH at 1920 Dayton Avenue, Ames, IA has animal rooms in building 7, suite 3 that need an epoxy floor coating. The bare broom finished concrete floors in Suite 3, rooms 3109, 3109A, 3109B, 3111, 3111A, 3111B, 3113, 3113A, 3113B, 3115, 3115A, and 3115B for large and medium animals have never had a coating installed; the best understanding is the concrete was sealed at the end of the Construction Project in 1995. In 2020, other rooms in suite 3 had an epoxy floor coating that has successfully met the needs of the researchers.

1.2 Scope of Work: This project is to prepare the concrete and install a 100% epoxy solids floor coating with a 50 mesh broadcasted quartz traction surface, 4” integral cove base, and two coats of UV/chemical resistant clear urethane sealer topcoat that forms an impermeable seal.

1.3 Offer Requirements: The contractor shall submit an offer with the scope as defined in section 1.2 and detailed throughout the remainder of the documentation provided. Only one animal room is guaranteed to be available at a time. Animals may need to be moved between spaces, the room cleaned, and gating removed by campus staff prior to release of the room. As such, the contractor should plan for at least 5 business days to complete these activities. Once the room is released, the contractor will have 5 days to complete the work within the room.

BASE BID – Perform flooring work in Rooms 3109, 3109A, and 3109B ADD ALTERNATE #1 – Perform flooring work in Rooms 3111, 3111A, and 3111B ADD ALTERNATE #2 – Perform flooring work in Room 3113, 3113A, and 3113B ADD ALTERNATE #3 – Perform flooring work in Room 3115, 3115A, and 3115B

1.4 Work requirements are detailed in the statement of work, attached drawings and specifications.

1.5 Note: It is imperative to note that every effort has been made to depict this work in the attachments; however, the content included is approximated. Interested parties are strongly encouraged to visit the site of the proposed work and review the existing conditions there relating to construction and labor, and to be fully informed as to the facilities involved, and the difficulties and restrictions that may affect the performance of the Contract. Failure to visit the site will not disqualify those submitting a proposal. However, change order requests for items that could have been reasonably ascertainable from a site visit (and included in a proposal) will be reviewed by the CO and evaluated accordingly.

1.6 Technical Requirements/Tasks:

1.6.1 The USDA shall be responsible for removing the existing gates and waterers, and for subsequently decontaminating the room prior to the contractor starting their work.
