About this file

This document is a comprehensive specifications manual (Attachment 1) for the construction of an Endoscopy Suite at the Robert J. Dole VA Medical Center in Wichita, Kansas. The project involves constructing a new 15,000 square foot, three-story addition to Building 34, with each floor designated for specific purposes: the second floor for endoscopy surgical waiting and recovery, the first floor for Office of Information and Technology (OI&T), and the ground floor for Bio-Medical Repair & Maintenance. A mechanical penthouse will also be constructed on the fourth level.

The specifications manual includes detailed technical requirements across multiple divisions, covering architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, and other critical construction aspects. The project has multiple bid items with optional deductions, allowing flexibility in scope. Notable specifications include provisions for shallow foundations, site development, material requirements, and seismic design parameters. The geotechnical report accompanying the specifications provides critical details about soil conditions, recommending specific foundation strategies, compaction criteria, and addressing potential challenges like existing fill materials and groundwater levels. The project is designed to be constructed in an occupied medical facility, requiring careful phasing and coordination to maintain uninterrupted medical care operations.
