Replace Fire Rated Collections Vault Doors

Scope of Work (SOW)

Project: Fire-Rated Door Replacement for Collection Storage

Location: Nez Perce National Historical Park, 39063 US Hwy 95, Lapwai, ID 83540-9715

Project Overview & Fire Protection Narrative

The doors serving the collection storage were made of hollow metal without fire door labels and automatic door closers. Concrete walls provide at least a 1-hour fire resistance rating. Gypsum walls separating the work prep area from mechanical equipment. The walls have unknown fire ratings but offer some smoke resistance.

NPS Museum Fire Protection requires compartmentation for dedicated storage collection with appropriate fire resistance rating. Replacing existing walls to achieve proper fire rating is not recommended. Instead, replacing existing hollow metal doors with fire-rated hardware and automatic door closers is recommended to meet compartmentation requirements.

Scope of Work

Replace existing hollow metal doors with UL-listed fire-rated hollow metal doors and frames equipped with automatic door closers and fire-rated hardware.

This includes:

• B3: Archive Vault Door (Double Door, 86" H × 76.25" W)

• Option A (if funding is acquired) B2: Collections Storage Vault Door (Single Door, dimensions

TBD)

Tasks:

• Remove existing doors and frames.

• Install new fire-rated assemblies and frames.

• Install fire-rated hardware: mortise lock, deadbolt, flush bolts (inactive leaf), continuous hinges, security astragal, perimeter smoke seals, ADA-compliant threshold.
