About this file
This document is a Salient Characteristics attachment for federal contract opportunity FA700026Q0081 issued by the US Air Force Academy, Dean of Faculty Department of Aeronautics (DFAN).
The DFAN requires procurement of a force balance system specifically designed for the Mach 6 Ludwig Tube (M6LT) impulse facility to enable force and moment measurements for hypersonic aerodynamic research and cadet training. The new capability will extend experimental usefulness and attract new research partners interested in hypersonic aerodynamic measurements comparable to those conducted in the Trisonic Wind Tunnel. Minimum equipment specifications include: a six-component balance with 1-inch outside diameter; capability to acquire steady-state force and moment data within 80 milliseconds of run time; ability to test startup loads and functionality in the tunnel prior to design work; an acquisition system compatible with NI LabView software and NI cDAQ chassis with NI-9239, NI-9237, or other appropriate data acquisition cards; and checkout testing and training services upon delivery. Without this capability, USAFA cannot capitalize on aerospace research opportunities and hypersonic flight-focused cadet learning experiences.

Attachment 1 – FA700026Q0081 Salient Characteristics
REQUIREMENT DESCRIPTION: The US Air Force Academy, Dean of Faculty Department of Aeronautics (DFAN) has a requirement to obtain a force balance for the Mach 6 Ludwig Tube facility. New force balance designed specifically for impulse facilities (M6LT) will enable force/moment measurements and extend the usefulness of the experiments conducted in the facility, including potential new research partners who are interested in aerodynamic measurements similar to those made in the Trisonic Wind Tunnel, but at hypersonic Mach numbers. Without this capability, USAFA will not be able to capitalize on many aerospace research opportunities and cadet learning experiences that are focused on hypersonic flight.
At a minimum, the equipment must:
• Six-component balance with outside diameter 1 inch
• Able to acquire steady state force and moment data in 80 ms of run time
• Ability to test startup loads and functionality in the tunnel prior to design work
• Include an acquisition system compatible with NI LabView software and NI cDAQ chassis with NI-9239, NI-9237 or other appropriate cards
• Check-out testing and training upon delivery
