About this file
This addendum provides specifications for replacing a section of failed 2-inch carrier and 4-inch casing pressure sewer piping at the WICA Elk Mountain Campground. The work includes furnishing and installing approximately 438 linear feet of high-density polyethylene DR11 pressure pipe using butt-fused joints or compression fittings. The pipe installation shall follow trench excavation and include proper bedding, backfill materials, fittings, and end seals as specified. Additional requirements cover concrete thrust blocks, final cleaning, testing, surface finish work and payment.
The related federal contract opportunity is to replace a failed lift station and decommission an old septic tank at the WICA Elk Mountain Campground for the Department of the Interior National Park Service Midwest Region.

PRESSURE SEWER PIPING AND APPURTENANCES
GRAVITY SEWER PIPING/CASING AND APPURTENANCES
WICA Elk Mountain Campground Wastewater Renovations Addendum A
PMIS 242482
PART 1 GENERAL
1 .1 DESCRIPTION
A. The work of this section consists of furnishing and installing 2-inch carrier and 4-inch casing (HDPE DR11 200 psi) pressure pipe at WICA Elk Mountain campground. This sewer force main and casing pipe will replace a suspected break in the carrier pipe. The carrier pipe and casing pipe will replace a section along the main campground road and on an existing service line pipe as shown on the attached drawing. Total length of pipe replacement is 438 lineal feet.
The carrier pipe leak is anticipated to be within the section of pipe on the plan drawing. However, it may be necessary to extend the length of replacement, if the broken carrier pipe is not found within this 438 foot section as shown on the plan set. The contractor may be asked and issued a modification extending the length of replacement.
1 .2 NOT USED
1 .3 DEFINITION
A. Bedding and backfill material types (BD, SB, BF) are defined in Section 02320.
1 .4 SUBMITTALS
A. HDPE Pipe and appurtenances. Pipe tee fittings, Pipe fusion weld or compression fittings required to attach existing pipe to new pipe. Method of construction.
B. Manufacturer's literature and certificates of compliance with the reference standards for pipe, fittings, and couplings.
C. Manufacturer's installation instructions or guide.
D. Written procedure for cleaning sewer lines and disposing of fluidized materials removed.
1 .5 PRODUCT HANDLING
A. Delivery: Handle pipe carefully to ensure delivery at the project site in sound, undamaged condition.
Contracting Officer will reject damaged pipe on site. Contractor shall replace damaged pipe at no additional expense to the Government.
B. Storage: Do not store materials directly on the ground. Adequately support piping to prevent warpage. Use protective covers where pipe may be damaged by direct sunlight.
PART 2 PRODUCTS
2 .1 HDPE PIPE, JOINTS, AND BACKFILL MATERIAL
WICA PMIS 242482 February 2023 002532-Page 2 of 4
Pipe: High Density Polyethylene (HDPE): HDPE pipe shall be the size as indicated on the plans, manufactured from high density, very high molecular weight (VHMW) pipe resin designated by PPI as PE3408. Lengths shall be joined by heat fusion in accordance with manufacturer’s recommendations. Compres s ion f i t t i ngs wi l l be cons ide red (Bras s /duc t i ng i ron f i t t i ngs wi th compres s ion pack j o in t s compa t ib le wi th HDP E p ipe ) . Manufacturer’s recommended maximum allowable bending radius for the HDPE carrier and casing pipe shall be provided by the Contractor in the submittal information. High Density Polyethylene DR11 PE 3408 Sewer Main meeting AWWA C901/C906, ASTM D2239, ASTM D2737, ASTM 3035.
A. Butt-fused joints. Compatible brass or ductile iron with compression pack joint compression fittings will be considered during the submittal process.
B. Bedding and Backfill: Section 02320.
1. Paved Areas: BD-3, SB-4, and BF-1.
2. Pedestrian and Lawn Areas: BD-3, SB-4, and BF-2.
3. Nontraffic Areas: BD-3, SB-4, and BF-2.
2 .2 FITTINGS
A. Size, grade, joint type, and lining to match pipe, and as recommended by the pipe manufacturer.
2 .3 FITTINGS FOR PLASTIC PIPE
A. For plastic pipe use cast or ductile fittings. For cast iron O.D. pipe use standard cast fittings. For IPS O.D.
pipe use IPS cast fittings or standard cast fittings with transition gaskets.
2 .4 COUPLINGS FOR PLAIN ENDS AND DISSIMILAR PIPES
A. Sleeve and transition type couplings shall be factory manufactured to ensure tight fit and smooth flow transition at the joint. Poured concrete collar and similar coupling methods will not be accepted.
PART 3 EXECUTION
3 .1 GENERAL
A. Construct the sewer carrier and casing pipe, complete with appurtenances, to the lines and grades shown on the plans.
3 .2 BEDDING
A. Section 02320.
3 .3 INSTALLATION
A. Trench Excavation: Both sewer pipes shall be trench excavated. Crossing of paved roadway/parking lot/walking path, where specially noted will also be completed by means of trench excavation and installation of High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE) carrier and casing pipe buried to an anticipated minimum depth of 2.5 feet and as shown on the plans. Match existing pipe depths.
B. HDPE carrier and casing pipe shall be the (IPS) size as indicated on the plans, with a minimum pressure rating of 200 psi, SDR 11 and a cell classification of 355434C or 345434C by ASTM D 3350. Pipe shall be provided in the manufacturer’s standard lengths. Lengths shall be joined by heat fusion or compression fittings in
WICA PMIS 242482 February 2023 002532-Page 3 of 4 accordance with manufacturer’s recommendations. Manufacturers recommended maximum allowable bending radius for the ca s in g and carrier pipe shall be provided by the Contractor in the submittal information.
C. Fittings for connecting to polyethylene pipe 2 inches and 4-inches in size shall be red brass insert or pack joint compression type fittings as recommended by the manufacturers.
D. HDPE carrier and casing pipe shall be the size as indicated on the plans, manufactured from high density, very high molecular weight (VHMW) pipe resin designated by PPI as PE3408. Casing pipe shall have a minimum pressure rating of 200 psi and a SDR of 11. Lengths shall be joined by heat fusion or compression fittings in accordance with manufacturer’s recommendations. Manufacturer’s recommended maximum allowable bending radius for the casing pipe shall be provided by the Contractor in the submittal information.
E. End seals, (1/8-inch synthetic rubber, Pipeline Seal and Insulator, or equal), shall be provided on the casing pipe to prevent entrance of backfill material.
A. The polyethylene pipe shall be the size indicated on the plans.
B. When crossing roadways, a minimum depth of cover over the top of the pipe, and in all adjacent areas, shall be that shown on the drawings and matching existing grades.
