About this file
This document is a guidance document from the Colorado Small Business Assistance Program detailing air emission reduction requirements for lawn and garden equipment used by government agencies in Colorado, effective June 1, 2025. The regulation impacts state, federal, and local government agencies, prohibiting the use of gasoline-powered push and hand-held lawn and garden equipment with internal combustion engines smaller than 19kw (for state agencies) or 7kw (for federal and local agencies within the Colorado ozone nonattainment area) during the period of June 1 to August 31.
Agencies must maintain records for five years and submit annual reports by June 1, 2026, including detailed information about equipment used, such as type, horsepower, manufacturer, model number, and hours of operation. The regulation covers various equipment types like push lawn mowers, leaf blowers, string trimmers, and hedge trimmers. Exemptions exist for emergency services, fire hazard reduction, forest management, and public safety purposes. Contracted lawn and garden service providers must also comply, and agencies must report on their contractors' activities.
