About this file

This document is a technical specification appendix for the Switzerland Park Project in Colorado, detailing the exclusion fencing installation requirements. The scope of work includes the provision and installation of 10-foot long steel posts anchored at 10-16 linear foot intervals, positioned 10-15 feet from mine openings as directed by the project manager. The fencing system comprises 72-inch high, 12.5-gauge galvanized metal wire fabric with maximum 6-inch by 6-inch spacing, secured to posts using 9-gauge wire ties. Corner post configurations utilize internal angles of 135 degrees or less with 9-gauge wire cross-bracing secured by metal sleeves. The specifications reference Standard Work Specification 17 and Standard Drawing 8 from the General Bid Specifications (2009) as the baseline, with modifications outlined in this appendix. Post holes must be a minimum of 1.5 inches wider than the post outer diameter, with depths of at least 24 inches in unconsolidated or weathered bedrock and 18 inches below ground surface where solid bedrock is encountered within one foot of the surface.

Posts shall be anchored using Class B foundation concrete from base to ground surface, with provisions allowing field-mixed concrete or pre-packaged concrete if pre-approved by the project manager. Steel posts must have a minimum outer diameter of 2-3/8 inches and be galvanized in accordance with AASHTO M 111, conforming to Class 1 Pipe, Grade A or B, per Federal Specification RR-F-191/3C, with hollow posts filled with concrete. The contractor is responsible for all necessary clearing and grubbing to construct the fence to required grade and alignment. Any gaps under the fence exceeding 6 inches in any direction must be closed using equivalent materials and methods pre-approved by the project manager. If required, man gates shall measure 6 feet by 3 feet, set between two posts a maximum of 6 inches off the ground surface, hinged at three locations on one side and including two latches (one locking) on the opposite post.
