About this file
This document is the AACC Signage & Wayfinding Guidelines manual for Anne Arundel Community College, providing comprehensive specifications for the design, fabrication, and installation of signage and wayfinding systems across the institution's campus. The guidelines cover multiple sign categories including room identification signs (RM), directory and directional signs (D), informational and prohibitive signs (IP), donor and award recognition signs (DA), identity signs (ID), and campus wayfinding signage (C). The manual establishes standardized specifications for sign materials, colors, vinyl finishes, typefaces, logos, symbols, dimensions, mounting methods, and installation heights to ensure consistency and accessibility across all campus signage. The guidelines reference ADA compliance requirements, including raised braille Grade II and proper lighting specifications, and provide detailed technical drawings at various scales showing front, side, plan, and elevation views for each sign type with precise measurements and component specifications.
The document specifies materials including acrylic panels in various thicknesses, aluminum components with specific paint finishes, vinyl graphics in designated colors (referencing Pantone and Avery products), and mounting hardware such as VHB tape, screws, and brackets. Color standards are defined using Akzo Nobel paint codes and Pantone matches, with metallic silver, white, teal, and black as primary colors. Typeface selections vary by application, with exterior signage utilizing Neue Frutiger World and Knockout HTF fonts and interior signage using Futura and Ringside Condensed fonts. The guidelines establish mounting heights at 60 inches above finished floor for most interior signage and provide alternative mounting configurations for various architectural conditions including doors with sidelights, double doors, and wall surfaces. The manual serves as the authoritative design standard for all signage work at AACC and would be essential reference documentation for contractors responding to the related campus wayfinding message updates project.

Micro Bio-Retention Meadow Grasses Pervious Paving Systems
BAY FRIENDLY, GREEN FEATURES
Landscapes and hardscapes at the Anne Arundel Community College Health and Life Sciences Building are designed to manage and reduce water pollution downstream. Bay friendly, green infrastructure oers a multitude of benefits beyond water quality including carbon sequestration, habitat creation and reduction of urban heat island eect.
These planters are designed to collect and filter excess rainwater. They are filled with plants native to low-lying areas in our region and absorb and filter rainwater. The root systems of these plants, along with the special soil mix below them, filter pollution from the water as it soaks into the ground before entering local streams and the Chesapeake Bay.
Upland meadow plantings border the bio-retention areas to provide an additional filtering layer and help to absorb and slow down the water before it enters the bio-retention areas. Meadow grasses help manage storm water runo and provide additional habitat area.
Major walkways at the Health and Life Sciences Building are paved with pervious pavers. These pavers are separated by aggregate-filled joints and placed over a bed of stones and aggregate. Water is able to infiltrate through the joints in the pavers and is stored in the void spaces in the stones and aggregates underneath the paver surface, where it is then filtered and absorbed back into the ground.

Energy efficiency strategies used throughout the Health and Life Science Building result in a 35% energy savings compared to a code compliant building, preventing nearly 470,000 pounds of greenhouse gases from being emitted. It would take 277 acres of forest to sequester that amount of carbon.
The Health and Life Science Building site previously housed an administration building and a pool house. Those structures were demolished and 97% of the demolition material was diverted from landfills and sent to recycling centers.
Electric vehicle charging stations and priority parking for fuel-efficient vehicles are provided in the parking lots that serve the Health and Life Science Building, reducing pollution by promoting alternatives to conventionally fueled automobiles.
The planting beds around the Health and Life Science Building include over
1.3 acres of native landscaping that provides habitat and promotes biodiversity, without the need for mowing, permanent irrigation, fertilizers, or pesticides. The site around the Health and Life Science Building provides over
1.75 acres of open space that encourages interaction with the environment and the campus community.
The Health and Life Science Building has reduced the building water usage by over 42% by installing low flow plumbing fixtures. These fixtures include low flow lavatories, urinals, and toilets, which save on water use and reduce sewage treatment needs. Exterior water use is reduced by providing drought-tolerant plants that do not require irrigation.
The Health and Life Science Building includes several strategies to promote occupant comfort and well-being by improving indoor air quality. The interior receives 30% more fresh air than a typical building; and building entrances are designed to prevent dirt and particulates from entering the building.
Materials inside the Health and Life Science Building were selected to minimize the use of harmful substances, and to promote human health. Over 25% of the materials used in the Health and Life Science Building came from responsible sources, including products with a high recycled content, salvaged materials, and FSC-certified wood. Some of these materials include the structural steel, drywall, ceilings, flooring, and metal siding.
