About this file

This is an Annual Crane-Hoist Inspection Checklist developed by the Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission (WSSC) in Maryland to standardize the inspection of overhead cranes and hoists across the agency's facilities. The checklist encompasses comprehensive annual inspection requirements for approximately 206 overhead cranes and hoists located at various WSSC facilities in Montgomery and Prince George's Counties, Maryland. Inspections must cover structural components, hoist and lifting mechanisms, mechanical systems, electrical and control systems, safety devices and labels, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, general condition and housekeeping, and functional and load testing. The contractor must perform thorough annual inspections, provide lubrication to all components requiring such service, and conduct no-load and rated-load functional tests. All inspection items are documented with pass/fail/N/A status, and defective components must be tagged out-of-service until repairs are completed. Responses for crane and hoists inspection, repair, and maintenance services are due by 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 21, 2026, via WSSC's eProcurement Portal.

The contractor must provide all necessary supervision, labor, service trucks, materials including oil and grease, tools, and equipment required for performance and completion of the contract work. Services include annual preventive maintenance, emergency repair services on a time and material basis, potential oil changes, and full-rated operational load testing for cranes and monorails in designated chlorine buildings. Inspection documentation must be maintained per OSHA requirements, with all corrective actions, repair dates, and re-inspections recorded and verified. The contractor is responsible for maintaining all cranes and hoists in proper operating condition throughout the contract term.
