DESCRIPTION
842.01 This work consists of removing vegetative material which has fallen into the logging out limits, top of cut and 4 feet minimum from the edge of the road.
REQUIREMENTS
842.02. Removal
Cut all logs and branches of fallen trees that extend across or into the roadway as MARKED ON THE GROUND.
Remove all vegetative material greater than 3 inches in diameter or 3 feet in length that has fallen into the roadway. Roots and stumps from trees within the roadway that have been uprooted shall be removed.
842.03 Disposal
All parts of down trees and other materials removed by logging out operations shall be disposed of by the slash treatment method SHOWN ON THE SCHEDULE OF ITEMS and in accordance with the following;
Method A – Scattering – Slash shall be scattered outside the clearing limits without developing slash concentrations.
Method B – Piling – Slash shall be piled so as not to interfere with traffic and so that burning does not damage standing trees. The Contractor will not be required to burn the piles.
Method C – Chipping – Slash up to at least 4 inches in diameter shall be processed through a chipping machine. Chips shall be deposited on embankment slopes or outside the roadway to a loose depth not exceeding 4 inches. Minor amounts of chips may be permitted within the roadway if they are thoroughly mixed with soil and do not form a layer.
Method D – Load and Haul to Disposal Site – Slash shall be loaded and hauled to a disposal site. The location and any special operating procedures for the disposal sites will be SHOWN ON THE DRAWINGS.
Logs larger than 4 inches in diameter by 8 feet long shall be decked at locations adjacent to the roadway as shown by the Contracting Officer.
METHOD OF MEASUREMENT
842.04
The quantity of logging out units will be determined by measuring the distance along the slope of the road centerline to the nearest one-tenth mile or by actual count of each tree designated by the Contracting Officer for removal.
