SECTION 06114

WOOD BLOCKING AND CURBING

PART 1 GENERAL

1.1 SUMMARY

A. Section includes wood blocking/infill in window cavity openings, wood furring and grounds, and preservative treatment of wood.

PART 2 PRODUCTS

2.1 MATERIALS

A. Blocking and Furring: Standard Grade SYP or Construction Grade SPF species; K-D lumber S4S, 19 percent maximum moisture content.

B. Plywood: APA/EWA Rated Sheathing, Grade C-D exterior; Exposure Durability 1;

C. Wood Preservative (Pressure Treatment): AWPA – certified material treated to not less than 0.40 lb/cu. ft. retention of CCA.

D. Wedges: Cedar

2.2 ACCESSORIES

A. Fasteners and Anchors:

1. Fasteners: Hot dipped galvanized steel for high humidity and treated wood locations, unfinished steel elsewhere.

2. Anchors: Toggle bolt type for anchorage to hollow masonry. Expansion shield and lag bolt type for anchorage to solid masonry or concrete. Bolt or ballistic fastener for anchorages to steel.

PART 3 EXECUTION

3.1 BLOCKING AND FURRING

A. Set members level and plumb, in correct position.

B. Place horizontal members, crown side up.

C. Construct furring members of solid wood sections.

D. Block and wedge in accordance with manufacturers installation requirements.

E. Coordinate installation with installation of window units and manufacturers installation requirements.

F. Use pressure treated wood for all applications in contact with concrete or masonry, and concealed in exterior construction.

3.2 SITE APPLIED WOOD TREATMENT

A. Brush-apply one coat of wood preservative treatment on site-sawn cuts.
