Munising Bunkhouse Bathroom Renovations Prebid Questions 11-19-2014

Q: Is the contractor responsible for plowing/snow removal to access the bunkhouse project:

A: The Forest Service will work with their current snow removal contractor to clear the parking area in front of the front door of the bunkhouse; they will plow the drive but not shovel the steps. The plowing schedule will be subject to the requirements of the contract for that work. Snow will be plowed regularly and generally by normal work office hours but no guarantee is given for completion prior to desired start work time every day.

Q: Can contractor mixed concrete be substituted for batch-plant concrete for the floor patching and what will the test requirements for this be?

A: The contractor would need to adhere to Section 033000 of the specifications; i.e. provide submittal for proposed mix design, adhere to ACI 301 for proportioning concrete mixes and ASTM C94 requirements for batching, mixing, and placing concrete. If batch plant or redi-mix concrete is used the mix design will be used to determine acceptability of the product provided ASTM placing requirements are followed. If site mixed concrete is used the approved mix design submittal will be followed and batching and mixing will be monitored by the COR. In either case exceeding a water cement ratio of 0.50 will result in rejection of the concrete. Contractor shall ensure adequate measuring devices are on-site to ensure proper batching. Ensure manufacturer instructions for using portable mixer are on site and followed. Concrete testing requirements will be eliminated for this project (batch-plant supplied or site mixed) with the exception that the government may elect to test concrete if concerned about concrete quality at the government’s expense. If this optional testing is performed and the concrete is found to not meet the requirements of the contract; the Contractor will be required to remove and replace deficient materials at no additional cost to the government. For site mixing of concrete the COR shall be notified 72 hours in advance of concreting operations.

Q: What if the existing sewer pipe is in poor/unusable condition?

A: If the existing waste stack is found to be in poor condition by the Contractor, immediately notify COR; if needed a change order will be negotiated for replacement of products that are currently planned to be reused. Ensure reasonable care is exercised during demolition and construction activities; Contractor is responsible for repairing property damaged by construction activities.
