1. Answers to Final Questions posed by Vendors:

Q – 1. Item 20415 Unsuitable Excavation – Is the Unsuitable Excavation to be for work at the Parking Area below the existing pavement and on the existing slope? Is the Select Borrow to replace the excavation incidental to this item, or is the Select Borrow included in Item 20815 Select Borrow?

Answer: Item 20415 is for existing embankment below pavement at Desert View.

Item 20815 is as it says the new embankment under new asphalt pavement and backfill behind MSE wall.

Q – 2. Item 20504 Rock Blasting – Is this item anticipated to be used at the Trail, or the Parking areas?

Answer: Item 20504 was put in for possible blasting at parking area or the trail.

Contractor is responsible for determining areas and how much is needed.

Q – 3. Item 20815 Select Borrow – Does the Select Borrow include material for the MSE Wall Backfill, the Trail retaining wall backfill, material to replace the Unsuitable Excavation, and the 12” Borrow shown below the pavement?

Does the Aggregate Base Item include all required Agg Base below the AC pavement, sidewalk, and curb?

Answer: We have recalculated the aggregate base and will be modifying the quantity to 405 cubic yards.

Q – 5. 60258B 24” RCP – Is the required Conc End Section per sheet C-504 incidental to the 24” RCP?

Answer: Rock Blasting was added to the contract, if it is needed. The contractor shall determine by site investigation if it is needed. There will be no payment for rock blasting if it is not needed and not used.

Q – 8. What is the difference between Contract Quantity and Actual Quantity?

Answer: Contract Quantity replaced the old Design Quantity. Actual Quantity is still the same. The rules for any adjustment are found in Section 109 and the

FAR.

Q – 9 Item # 25802 – Colored Reinforced Concrete Retaining Wall, Class C Concrete, Stamped Finish (Trial) – Please provide the integral color and stamped pattern that is intended to be used on the cast in place retaining walls.

Answer: The color has not yet been decided and will be provided at the pre-work meeting. The stamped pattern will resemble rock – contractor submittals will be evaluated by the Forest Service.

Q – 10 The typical sections for the Retaining wall (Sheets C-607 & C-608) show a minimum geogrid membrane embedment length and a minimum area for the reinforced backfill. The Parking Area Cross Sections show the existing slope to be near the toe of the wall. If the existing grade and/or bedrock is encountered within the reinforced backfill area, will the rock need to be excavated, or will the geogrid embed length be revised and the bedrock left in place?

Answer: Any grade or bedrock encountered within the reinforced backfill area will need to be excavated. The geogrid embed length will not be revised/reduced.
