About this file

This is a Questions and Answers (Q&A) document for RFP AA-2027-02, issued as Amendment 1 on October 21, 2026, clarifying requirements for the fabrication of Storage Ring Embedded Floor Plates for the ALS-U project at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory under the Department of Energy.

The document addresses four primary clarifications: (1) confirmation of access to released drawings, BOM AL-1953-0511, and inspection drawing AL-1952-8314 via shared Google Drive; (2) correction of required quantities totaling 96 plates (not 108), with specific corrections to embedded floor plate type 3 (11 units) and type 9 (1 unit), with contractors directed to use the updated Price Proposal Schedule, Attachment A, RFP AA-2027-02 Rev. 1; (3) explanation of inspection and machining options, where Options 1 and 2 address inspection scope (Option 1 uses CMM for first articles and templates for production; Option 2 uses CMM for all parts), and Options 4 and 5 address secondary machining of 26 production plates each with additional CAD files to be provided; and (4) confirmation that the Past Performance Reference Information Form, Attachment B, issued October 21, 2026, should be used, with the formal RFP number corrected to 2027-02. The submission deadline is November 11, 2026, with questions for clarification required by October 26, 2026. Required submissions include the Price Proposal (Attachment A), ALS-U Quality Evaluation Survey, Sample Subcontract, and Rep Cert Form.

RFP AA-2027-02

Questions & Clarifications

1. Drawings and BOM: Could you provide or confirm access to the complete released drawing package, BOM AL-1953-0511, and critical inspection drawing AL-1952-8314? These drawings are included in the shared Google Drive, as referenced within the RFP: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1niVch5GsF5JBBaIcxPopejFrsTswjDop

2. Required quantities: The SOW narrative states 96 plates, while the delivery table and pricing schedule appear to total 108 plates across nine variants. Could you confirm the required quantity?

There are two typos in the SOW's table 3.1. The correct information is that there are a total of 96 plates. Embedded floor plate type 3 (AL-1425-2860) quantity is 11 and embedded floor plate type 9 (AL-1975-5588) quantity is 1.

Please utilize herein incorporated “Price Proposal Schedule, Attachment A, RFP AA-2027-02 Rev. 1” which reflects this update.

The current Sample Subcontract and SOW will be updated upon actual award to reflect the quantity changes as referenced above.

3. Inspection and machining options: Please clarify how the required base inspection scope should be priced relative to Options 1 and 2, and what distinguishes additional-machining Options 4 and 5, which each list 26 plates.

Option 1 uses a CMM for measurement acceptance of first articles and a template for measurement acceptance of production parts and Option 2 uses a CMM for measurement acceptance for inspection of all parts (first article and production). Each option can be priced as a total amount per Option.

Options 4 and 5 are for a secondary machining of the production plates in case we need the fabricator to do this work after production of the plates. We would supply an additional CAD file for this work. Each option has a quantity of 26 plates as stated in the statement of work Table 3.1.

4. Proposal documents: Could you provide the referenced Past Performance Reference Information Form, Attachment B, and confirm whether updated documents are available to replace the internal references to AA-2026-09?

The formal RFP Number is 2027-02. Please utilize herein incorporated “Past Performance Reference Information For, Attachment B”, issued October 21, 2026.
