About this file

This is a Question and Answer document for RFQ No. AA-2026-05 issued by Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL) for flexible LMR cable assemblies. The document addresses six questions from potential offerors regarding technical specifications, delivery requirements, and first article inspection procedures.

LBNL requires fire-rated LMR-195-FR coax cable assemblies with SMA Male to SMA Male connectors at a maximum frequency of 8 GHz, with an actual operating frequency of 500 MHz. The assemblies must include custom labels in four colors (Blue, Red, Green, and White) and may require RF testing and phase matching. Cables must be delivered in sets of four, with each set containing one cable of each color. Only LMR cable equivalents are acceptable; non-LMR alternatives are not permitted. For the production batch of 984 pieces, cable lengths can range from 1.5 feet to 4.0 feet as specified in the option table. Initial quantities of 60, 16, and 8 pieces serve as first articles that require written approval before the production run may commence. Approval will not be conducted via Net-Inspect but rather through written authorization that specifies selected cable lengths and corresponding quantities. The response date for this RFQ is April 23, 2026. All other terms and conditions of the original RFQ remain unchanged.

QUESTION & ANSWER

for

RFQ No.: AA-2026-05 – Flexible LMR Cable

Question 1: Does LBNL need Fire Rated cable or standard?

Answer: Yes, we need fire-rated cable.

Question 2: LM-195-FR is rated to 8GHz; however, cable assembly requirements specify:

• SMA Male to SMA Male

• LMR-195-FR coax cable *

• Frequency range to 18 GHz **

• Possible Phase Matching

• RF Testing

• Custom Labels in colors Blue, Red, Green, and White

Answer: We could lower the frequency specification to 8 GHz.

Question 3: Does LBNL require as pairs - as sets of 3,4,5

Answer: The cables could be grouped and delivered as sets of four, with each set including one cable of each required color.

Question 4: Is LBNL open to equivalents that are not LMR?

Answer: No, other equivalents are not an option.

As of April 16, 2026 the following Questions 5 & 6 have been added to this document:

Question 5: Do you know what the operating frequency is? Lmr-195-fr max frequency is 6 ghz

Answer: The operating frequency is 500 MHz. The maximum frequency on the LMR-195-FR manufacturing specification sheet is 8 GHz.

Question 6: For the production batch of 984pcs, what is the required length? Also, I saw a First Article is required for the production run. We can ship the 60, 16, 8 pcs without a FAIR but for the production run, we must wait for approval? Would it be via Net Inspect?

Answer: The required length for the production batch of 984 pcs can range from 1.5 Feet to 4.0 Feet as listed in the option table. The 60, 16 and 8 pcs are the first articles for the production. Approval of these first articles is required before proceeding with the production. The approval process will not be conducted via Net-Inspect. Instead, we will provide written approval, including the selected cable lengths and corresponding quantities, before authorizing the production run.

All other terms and conditions of this RFQ remain the same.

Response Date is April 23, 2026.
