Site Location:
Aransas National Wildlife Refuge 1 Wildlife Circle Austwell, TX 77905
Site Description:
Established in 1937 to protect migratory birds and other resident wildlife, Aransas National Wildlife Refuge (NWR) located along the middle of the Texas gulf coast and is the wintering home of the endangered whooping crane and attracts over 65,000 visitors each year from all over the world. Aransas NWR includes 116,000 acres on five separate units and provides habitat for a vast diversity of wildlife.
Aransas NWR offers a variety of recreational opportunities including hunting, fishing, wildlife observation, wildlife photography, environmental education, and environmental interpretation. Visitors are provided with several walking trails, boardwalks, and observations decks/towers to explore and enjoy the refuge. Activities such as biking and kayaking are also allowed to help provide visitors with opportunities to get outside and experience the Aransas NWR.
Project Description:
In August of 2017 Aransas NWR was devastated by Hurricane Harvey impacting most of the buildings used for administering the refuge. Funding was appropriated for the construction of new facilities to support refuge operations and programs. New facilities include visitor center/administrative office, maintenance facilities, bunk house, volunteer building, and hunt check station. Butler-Cohen Design +Build began construction in May of 2020 and construction is slated to be finished in December 2021. The US Fish and Wildlife Service is looking to purchase furnishings for offices and common areas in the new facility. Selected office furniture should match the architectural look and feel of the new building, be ergonomic, comfortable and sturdy. The following spaces in the new facility are to be furnished.
