Statement of Work
Repair Pony Pen Hay Barn
1.0 INTRODUCTION
The National Park Service (NPS) Cape Hatteras National Seashore (CAHA) has a requirement to repair the Pony Pen Hay Barn on Ocracoke Island, NC
2.0 CONSTRUCTION SITE LOCATIONS
The Bodie Island Maintenance compound is located NC Highway Route 12 on Ocracoke Island, NC
3.0 BACKGROUND AND EXISTING CONDITIONS
The Outer Banks Group (OBG) has a hay barn located within the fencing of the Pony Pen on Ocracoke Island. This building has several structural issues that need correction. Several of the pilings that the barn sit on are badly deteriorated and in need of replacement, also the east side of the building has settled about 3-4 inches. This building’s design is not conductive to hay and feed storage due to lack of ventilation and support. An addition was put on the back of the building sometime during the 80’s that will be removed.

4.0 SCOPE OF WORK
4.1 Task 1: Demolish Barn building down to pilings and girders. Lean too shed roof and walls to remain and be reattached to new building
4.1.1 Remove pilings and girders from rear section of building and retain materials for reuse if able. Remove all girders under main portion of building to allow for replacement of damaged pilings.
4.1.2 Remove and replace damaged pilings. Using the height of the lowest east side piling establish the new height for the girders.
4.1.3 Reinstall girders at new height using through bolts and notched pilings to ensure solid foundation for new building. Trim off excess from pilings.
4.2 Task 2: Construction of new Barn
4.2.1 Install 2x12” pressure treated floor joists on 16” centers to frame a 20’ x 30’flooring system, utilizing storm anchors in accordance with manufactures recommendations.
4.2.2 Install ¾” plywood subflooring to joists using adhesive and screws.
4.2.3 Walls are to be 2x6 framed 10’ high with t-111 exterior siding, openings for a total of 10 2’x3’ louvered and screened vents, 1 36x80 steel entrance door and 1 8x8 sliding barn door.
4.2.4 Roof is to be 2x4 premanufactured trusses, placed at 24” on center with 5/8” plywood decking, ice and snow self stick underlayment over entire roof surface and architectural Shingles warrantied for 150 mph wind.
4.2.5 Install 36x80 door to west wall 6’ centerline from southern corner. Dorr to include exterior trim and all hardware necessary for proper operation.
4.2.6 Install 8x8 barn door on south wall 6’ centerline from western corner.
Door to include all hardware required for proper operation.
4.2.7 Vents shall be installed 3 each along the east and west walls and 2 each along the south and north walls. To be space evenly and at a center line height of 84”
4.2.8 Install 4 LED shop lights spaced equally throughout building on a single switch and 3 4-gang duplex outlets in front section of building. Install 2 exhaust fans 1 on each gable end, wired separately to individual switches to be located with lighting switch along side of the man door.
4.2.9 Remove and replace loading deck surface, stairways, and railings
4.2.10 Reattach existing lean too shed roof
NOTES:
1. The contractor is responsible for coordinating with the NPS staff prior to work starting to remove or relocate shop equipment from the building. Private or public parties as required to complete the project.

2. The contractor must comply with all local, State, and Federal laws, and regulations while in performance of this contract.
3. The finished building is required to be Certified sustainable under the Guiding Principles Compliance for Federal Buildings.
5.0 SUBMITTALS
The Contractor must supply the Contracting Officer and COR with the following submittals:
1. Accident Prevention Plan
2. Wood Product Data sheet
3. Roofing Product Data sheet
4. Vents and Doors Data sheets to include hardware
5. Structural Steel Manufacturer’s certificate of shop applied coating system meets
International Building Code for coastal environment.
