About this file

This is a Description of Requirements (DoR) document for precast concrete products needed by the Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC), Geotechnical and Structures Laboratory (GSL) at Fort Polk, Louisiana.

The requirement consists of three line items: (1) 100 precast concrete slabs measuring 4-feet by 4-feet with 6-inch thickness, (2) one ASTM C31 cylinder (4x8 inches, field cured) crated in a padded box, and (3) two 5-gallon buckets of representation aggregates (both fine and coarse) sealed with lids. The concrete slabs must achieve a minimum 28-day compressive strength of 4,000 psi per ASTM 39, with strength reports to be electrically transmitted for verification. The contractor shall provide mix design documentation and certifications for steel and aggregate materials. The cylinders and aggregate samples are for research purposes only and will not be used for slab acceptance. Slab specifications include A615 Grade 60 rebar, ASTM C33 aggregate (course aggregate not exceeding 1 inch), 0.5-inch chamfer on all edges, minimum 1.5-inch clear cover, smooth formed surfaces with trowel-finished open surfaces, and four anchors sized per ACI Standards and PCI Design Handbook. Lifting hardware must be flush or below surface, preferably Meadow Burke RL-24 Rapid Lift (2-ton, 10-inch from corner). Delivery to ERDC Test Facility at Fort Polk, Louisiana must occur no later than 45 days after contract award, with ERDC providing heavy equipment for off-loading. Slabs may be shipped individually stacked or in palletized bundles.

Description of Requirements Precast Concrete Slabs, Cylinders, and Materials

Fort Polk, LA

The Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC), Geotechnical and Structures Laboratory (GSL) has a requirement for precast concrete products. The following table outline the three parts of this requirement: 1) slabs, 2) crated cylinders, and 3) bulk aggregate.

Line Item Quantity Description

1 6-inch-thick slab

100 4-ft x 4-ft, 6-inch-thick precast concrete slabs, see additional notes and sketch on pages 2 & 3

Contractor shall provide:

• 28-day concrete strength report; electrically transmitted (emailed) for proof of ASTM 39 requirement.

• Mix Design and any related certifications for steel and aggregate(s).

2 ASTM C31

cylinders, 4x8 “field cured”

1 Crated in a padded box, labeled (see instructions below, page 1)

3 5-gallon buckets of aggregate

1 Two 5-gallon buckets sealed with lids of representation aggregates used in the slabs above

Shipping 1 Delivery Location below. ERDC will provide heavy equipment for off-loading. Slabs can be shipped as individual stacked or in palletized bundles for handling

Delivery Location: ERDC Test Facility, Fort Polk, LA.

Delivery Date: No later than 45 days after award.

Notes:

The ASTM C31 cylinders, line item 2, should be a representation of the 100 slabs. Crating and shipping should be done to prevent damage from handling. Cylinders are for research purposes only and will not be used as part of the acceptance of the slab strength requirements.

Aggregates, line item 3, should be a representation of the 100 slabs both fine and course.

Materials are for research purposes only; observations will be taken from samples.
