Statement of Work (SOW) ADAPTA Filming and Producing Services

Scope of Work: Video filming and production of Wood Salvage Proof of Concept Project and ADAPTA Wood Workshops on building resiliency in Forestry Practices and Forest Product Development

Background: The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Caribbean Hub for Risk Adaptation and Mitigation to Climate Change (Caribbean Climate Hubs, CCH) at the International Institute of Tropical Forestry (IITF) was established to deliver science-based knowledge and practical information to farmers, ranchers, and forest landowners that will help them to adapt to climate change and weather variability. The CCH provides technical support for agricultural land and forest managers to respond to hurricanes, drought, heat stress, floods, pests, and changes in growing seasons in Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands. The CCH focus on educating farmers, ranchers, forest managers and advisers on ways to build resilience to extreme weather events and thrive despite a changing climate.

Starting in late January 2019, the CCH will host at least four 1-day workshops for forest land owners and wood industry stakeholders as part of the ADAPTA project, an initiative developed to provide hands-on demonstrations of land management practices and adaptation techniques to address risks associated with climate change. The topic of the workshops include: 1) chainsaw & pole saw, safety and use in pre and post hurricane situations; 2) milling techniques for maximum log utilization; 3) wood product development; and 4) use of hardwoods in reforestation planning.

One of the objectives of this initiative is to produce videos based on the workshops to develop educational modules and/or a web-based courses.

In addition, the CCH will be working with partners in the wood industry to process logs salvaged from Hurricane María debris management operations to produce wood and wood products. One of the objectives is to document through a video the transformation of the logs from waste to final wood products. The video should showcase the strengths and the challenges facing the wood industry on the Island and serve as a reflection of what can be improved in the management of woody debris in future extreme weather events.

The CCH seeks the services of a professional for filming and video editing post-production including sound editing, subtitles, animations and visual effects insertions. The Contractor is expected to produce at least four educational videos based on the ADAPTA workshops and at least one video based on the wood salvage proof of concept project.

The workshops will be in different facilities around the Island and will be one or two day events with lectures and demonstrations of best management practices. The transformation of wood logs rescued from Hurricane Maria into wood products and other activities associated that project will take place during 2019.

Tasks: Filming and video editing post-production, sound editing, subtitles, animations and visual effects insertions for educational videos. The Contractor shall produce at least four educational videos based on the ADAPTA workshops and at least one video based on the wood salvage proof

ADAPTA WORKSHOPS

The ADAPTA workshops, developed by the USDA Caribbean Climate Hub, are intended to help farmers address risks associated with climate change by communicating specific best practices and providing risk management training. Risks include more extreme temperatures, heat stress, increases in invasive pests, droughts, and floods. This initiative aims to build climate change resilience in the agriculture and forestry sectors by providing five workshops that include theory and on-farm demonstrations.
