1.0 INTRODUCTION

1.1 PURPOSE

This document, SSP 50621, Generic On-orbit Stowage Capabilities and Requirements (OSCAR): Pressurized Volume, documents approved stowage capabilities for all International Space Station (ISS) pressurized modules/elements, and also documents the approval of National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and applicable International Partners (IP’s) of those approved stowage capabilities.

1.2 SCOPE

The scope of this document is limited to Approved Stowage Capability (ASC) which can be utilized without violating generic and module-specific groundrules or constraints.

The ISS configuration used for this document is post-ULF7.

There are certain locations that are not used for permanent stowage due to crew efficiency (e.g. not stowing on rack fronts in dwellings due to high amounts of translation) and cargo operations (e.g. trash staging and docking/berthing ports). Locations that impact crew efficiency are only used temporary and will be removed as quickly as possible. This applies to USOS modules only.

Any identified temporary stowage capability which violates a hazard control, GGR&C (Generic Groundrule and Constraint), United States On-orbit Segment (USOS) constraint, or documented Russian Segment (RS) constraint and requires a waiver or deviation, is out of the scope of this document. Waivers or deviations are documented in the applicable ISS safety documentation or operations planning document (i.e., Non-Compliance Reports, Increment Definition & Requirements Document, etc.).

U.S. Segment Stowage values are per GGR&C 13159 <TBD 1-1>.

The definition of waivers and deviations are provided in the NASA/Partners’ Joint Management Plans/Protocol (SSP 50019, NASA/ESA Joint Management Plan;

SSP 50022, NASA/CSA Joint Management Plan; SSP 50030, NASA/NASDA Joint Management Plan; SSP 50107, NASA/Roscosmos Joint Management Protocol).

This Generic OSCAR will be updated, as necessary, to incorporate changes to the on-orbit module ASC’s (e.g., relocating a module, the addition of a new module, or rack changes to current modules).

1.3 PRECEDENCE

If there are any discrepancies between the information contained in this document and

SSP 50261-01, Generic Groundrules, Requirements, and Constraints Part 1: Strategic and Tactical Planning, SSP 50128, Specification of Technical Requirements for the FGB Functional Cargo Block, and SSP 41163, ISS Russian Segment Specification, the aforementioned documents take precedence.

1.4 DELEGATION OF AUTHORITY

The Generic OSCAR document is the responsibility of the Multilateral Mission Integration and Operations Control Board (MMIOCB). All changes to this document will

1-2 be processed in accordance with the procedures as specified in SSP 41170, Configuration Management Requirements.

4.2 NODE 1 (ZENITH 1 INCLUDED)

The ASC for cargo stowage inside Node 1 consists of two ZSR’s (Zero-gravity Stowage Rack) and one RSR (Resupply Stowage Rack) and Node 1 Galley with minimal stowage capability (5 CTBE). Each ZSR has front adjustable shelves and a rear ‘pocket’ which is only accessible when the ZSR is rotated outward. The RSR has front accessible fixed shelves. Additional ASC is available in the alcove corridor, on panel fronts, in the overhead docking port, and in the Z1 vestibule (see location NOD1O2).

Node 1 ASC by rack bay is shown in Table 4.2-1, Node 1 ASC, with stowage operational impacts identified for those relevant locations (e.g. rack front stowage).

Node 1 rack locations are identified in Figure 4.2-1, Node 1 Location Reference, (a topology type format), and can also be located pictorially in Figures 4.2-2, Node 1 Port/Overhead ‘Rack Front’ Stowage Capability, and 4.2-3, Node 1 Starboard/Deck ‘Rack Front’ Stowage Capability; the volumes shown in blue were determined by calculating the total bounded volume in each bay and hatchway to show the available stowage capability that is not within rack bays or racks which were designed specifically for stowage. Items of different sizes can be stowed within the volume available.

4.4 JOINT AIRLOCK

The ASC for cargo in the Joint A/L (Airlock) consists of racks, pallets, bins, bags, and behind closeouts in the Equipment Lock and Crewlock.

The Joint A/L is mainly used to stow EVA (Extravehicular Activity) equipment as well as EVA and A/L spares equipment. However, the Joint A/L can handle other hardware stowage as long as it is certified for vacuum operations or removed when the A/L atmospheric pressures will be reduced below certified levels. In addition to complying with Generic Groundrules and Constraints and HR ISS-STO-0801-AC, stowage should also:

1. Not block Relief Valve Outlet or Sample Probe

2. Not block or contact:

a) Nitrogen Oxygen Recharge System (NORS) Manifold Vent Holes,

b) NORS Closeout Cover,

c) NORS O2 (N2) Recharge Rank, or

d) The Recharge Regulators or Hoses

3. Not block screens on A/L1A2 Y4 panel and below the Umbilical Interface Assembly (UIA) Regulator.

4. Not block the oxygen venting pathway behind the closeout at A/L1D2 from the Prebreathe Regulator out to the top half of the Mesh Screen in the Cloth Panel.

5. Not block the operation of the Battery Stowage Assembly Door.

Joint Airlock ASC is shown in Table 4.4-1, Joint Airlock ASC, with stowage operational impacts identified for those relevant locations (e.g. rack front stowage). Joint Airlock rack locations are identified in Figure 4.4-1, Joint Airlock Location Reference, (a topology type format).

4.5 NODE 2

The ASC for cargo inside Node 2 consists of small volumes within two DDCU racks, several panel fronts, and the three available docking ports when visiting vehicles are not docked or berthed.

Node 2 ASC is shown by location in Table 4.5-1, Node 2 ASC, with any stowage operational impacts identified for those relevant locations (e.g. rack front stowage). In addition to complying with Generic Groundrules and Constraints and HR ISS-STO- 0801-AC, stowage shall not block access to the Rack Power Switches (RPS’s ) of the Node 2 avionics rack.

Node 2 rack locations are identified in Figure 4.5-1, Node 2 Location Reference, (a topology type format) and can also be located pictorially in isometric type Figures 4.5-2, Node 2 Deck/Port ‘Rack Front” stowage Capability, and 4.5-3, Node 2 Forward Stowage

Capability; the volumes shown in blue were determined by calculating the total bounded volume in each bay and hatchway to show the available stowage capability that is not within rack bays or racks which were designed specifically for stowage. Items of different sizes can be stowed within the volume available.

4.10 CUPOLA

There is no stowage capability in the Cupola.

4.11 PERMANENT MULTIPURPOSE MODULE (PMM)

The ASC for cargo stowed inside PMM is contained in ZSR’s, RSR’s, RSP’s (Resupply Stowage Platforms), empty rack bays, standoff areas, End cone, on rack fronts, and in the corridor.

PMM ASC is shown in Table 4.11-1, PMM ASC, with stowage operational impacts identified for those relevant locations (e.g. rack front stowage). PMM rack locations are identified in Figure 4.11-2, PMM Locations, (a topology type format) and can be located pictorially in isometric type Figures 4.11-3, PMM ‘Rack Front’ and Corridor Stowage Capability, and 4.11-4, PMM ‘End Cone’ Stowage Capability, which use purple “boxes” to depict available stowage capability that is not within rack bays or racks which were designed specifically for stowage. Each purple box represents a single CTB. The purple boxes should only be used to determine available stowage capability in specific locations. Items of different sizes can be stowed within the volume available.

Limitations (reference Chit 9631):

1. Stowage on each rack front is limited to a 39” tall x 39.5” wide CTB footprint that extends 16.75” from the rack face and is centered on the rack to avoid impinging on the diffuser KOZ.

2. Stowage in the corridor is limited to a 50.25” tall x 39” wide x 39.5” deep footprint in each of bays 2, 3, and 4, leaving a 5.8” clear pathway from the Air Diffusers to the Air Returns on each side (Figure 4.11-1).
