INTRODUCTIOn PURPOSE and scope This Interface Control Document (ICD) defines and controls the physical and functional interfaces between the United States On-Orbit Segment (USOS) of International Space Station (ISS) and the Permanent Multi-Purpose Module (PMM). The previous revision of this document, SSP 42007, United States On-Orbit Segment to Italian Mini Pressurized Logistics Module Interface Control Document Part 2, Revision K, dated February 18, 2010, is being modified to reflect the replacement of the Mini Pressurized Logistics Module (MPLM) module with the redesigned MPLM now referred to as the Permanent Multipurpose Module, or PMM.

RESPONSIBILITY AND CHANGE authorization This document is prepared and maintained in accordance with SSP 30459, International Space Station Interface Control Plan. The NASA shall delegate the responsibility for preparation and maintenance of this ICD.

INTERFACE

general Interface Description In accordance with ISS Program decisions authorized and directed by ISS Change Directive 013565, Permanent Multipurpose Module (PMM) Relocation and Second Docking Port at Node 2 Zenith, the PMM is to permanently berth to the forward radial port of Node 3. The capability to berth the PMM at the Common Berthing Mechanism locations on Node 1 Nadir and Node 2 Nadir will remain, however, the configuration directed by CD 013565 will be the primary focus depicted in this document. Node 1 and Node 2 Nadir interface configurations for the PMM remain in the document as reference material in the event that future ISS relocation of the PMM back to these nodes is required. Node 1 and Node 2 berthing interfaces for berthing spacecraft other than PMM will be identified where appropriate (clocking orientations, power feeds, etc.).

The Node 3-to-PMM on-orbit configuration is shown in Figure 3.1.1-1, On-Orbit Configuration of Permanent Multi-Purpose Module to Node 3 Forward. A notional representation of the H-II Transfer Vehicle (HTV) and PMM attached to ISS Node 1 and Node 2 Nadir ports is shown in Figure 3.1.1-2, On-Orbit Configuration of Modules to Node 1 and Node 2 Nadir for reference purposes.

The generic Node-to-PMM utility interface plane is shown in Figure 3.1.1-3, Interface Planes. The Node 3 to PMM utility interfaces are on the pressure bulkhead at the external feed through connectors of Node 3 Forward. The structural and mechanical interface is at the plane between Common Berthing Mechanism (CBM) active and passive halves attaching the PMM to Node 3 Forward. Dimensions and material characteristics at the CBM to pressurized element interface are in accordance with SSP 41004, Common Berthing Mechanism to Pressurized Elements Interface Control Document. Dimensions and material characteristics at the interface plane between the CBM active and passive halves are in accordance with SSP 41148, Active Common Berthing Mechanism to Passive Common Berthing Mechanism Interface Control Document.

A Node 1 Nadir modification kit will provide the same capability and vehicle services as Node 2 Nadir port and will support two vehicle clocking orientations to provide operational flexibility for alternate, future ISS configurations.

Items used in this interface include: avionics connectors, connector caps, fluid quick disconnects (QD), Intermodule Ventilation (IMV) ducts, V-Band clamps, pressure caps, and close-out panels.

interface responsibilities Unless otherwise noted, National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) carries the responsibility for designing to the interface requirements imposed on the USOS portion of this interface, and ASI carries the responsibility for designing to the interface requirements imposed on the PMM portion of this interface.

structural/mechanical interface General The PMM structurally attaches to a USOS Node Element via a CBM. The CBM has two halves, each of which are attached to the pressure shells of each element in accordance with SSP 41004. Node Elements utilize the Active Common Berthing Mechanism (ACBM) to mate with the Passive Common Berthing Mechanism (PCBM) on the PMM. The bulkhead of each element provides for the routing of utilities around the clear passage envelope and within the CBM volume.

Utility Penetrations The assigned penetrations and reference designations for the Node 1 / Node 2 element nadir bulkhead are shown in Figure 3.2.2-1, Utility Penetration of the Node 1 and Node 2 Element Nadir Radial Bulkhead From Node Interior. The assigned penetrations and reference designations for the PMM bulkhead are shown in Figure 3.2.2-2, Utility Penetration Layout of the PMM Bulkhead.

The assigned penetrations and reference designations for the Node 3 element forward Radial bulkhead are shown in Figure 3.2.2-5, Utility Penetration Layout of the Node 3 Element Forward Radial Bulkhead From Node 3 Interior.

Connectors and utilities do not intrude into the envelopes reserved for PMM structural gussets shown in Figure 3.2.2-3, Envelope Reserved for PMM Structural Gussets, and Figure 3.2.2-4, Detail Envelope Reserved for PMM Structural Gussets.

interface maintenance access Access for maintenance of connectors and jumpers within the vestibule is provided by removal of the Vestibule Closeout Panels. The interface between the PMM (referenced as MPLM) and the Vestibule Closeout Panel is defined in SSP 41004, Part 2.

See Tables 3.3-1 and 3.4.1-1 for penetration details

Fluid interface The fluid interfaces between the USOS and Node 3 to PMM consist of a series of flexible lines connected between each element bulkhead. These lines transport liquid and gaseous fluids across the interface as shown in Figure 3.3-1, USOS to PMM Generic Fluid Utility Interface.

electrical interface Electrical connectivity The electrical interfaces between Node 1, Node 2, and Node 3, and the PMM consists of a series of electrical jumpers connected between each element bulkhead as shown in Figure 3.4.1–1, Node Element to PMM Generic Electrical Utility Interface. The Node 3 to PMM electrical interface resides between electrical jumper assembly connector plug and the Node 3 bulkhead feed-through receptacle. The Nodes 1 and 2 to PMM electrical interfaces reside between the electrical jumper assembly connector plug and the PMM bulkhead feed-through receptacle.

Each electrical jumper assembly is a cable assembly terminated into 2 electrical plugs, each reference designated in numerical accordance with its mating pressure shell penetration connector (on the interfacing element).

Control of the detailed electrical interface consists of identifying the particular receptacle/plug pair, configuration, location, part number and functionality. The details of these controlling parameters are shown in:

Electrical Bonding Electrical bonding of PMM to Node will be accomplished via proper bonding of the intermediate interface sections, namely PMM to PCBM bonding interface, PCBM to ACBM bonding interface and ACBM to Node bonding interface.

All bonding interfaces will implement class R bonding. The PCBM to ACBM bonding interface will utilize two bonding straps across the junction. These bonding interfaces will be designed to conduct 200 A with a duration of 500 ms without creating a thermal or electrical hazard.

In detail:

PMM to PCBM bonding interface will be performed as per SSP 41004, Part 1 and Part 2.

PCBM to ACBM bonding interface will be performed as per SSP 41148.

ACBM to Node interface will be performed as per SSP 41004, Part 1 and Part 2.
