The purpose of this document is to provide definition of the physical and functional interface requirements between the Pressurized Mating Adapter (PMA)−3 and the Node Element 3 (Node 3).

The scope of this document covers the interface between PMA−3 and Node 3.

E1.2 PRECEDENCE

In the event of conflict between SSP 41000, International Space Station System Specification, and the contents of this Interface Control Document (ICD), the requirements of SSP 41000 shall take precedence.

E3.0 INTERFACES

E3.1 GENERAL

E3.1.1 INTERFACE DESCRIPTION

The Node 3 to PMA−3 on−orbit configuration is shown in Figure E3.1.1−1. The functional interfaces described in the following paragraphs are defined in Figure E3.1.1−2.

The only utility interfaces connected between Node 3 and PMA−3 are for intermodule ventilation, electrical power, and instrumentation. All other interfaces described in this ICD are scarred and not connected.

E3.1.1.1 NODE 3 DESCRIPTION

Node 3 is a pressurized element which provides living accommodations for on−orbit astronauts.

Node 3 contains a limited amount of powered hardware and provisions for storing crew necessities. Node 3 shall provide data, audio, video, air, sample structural/mechanical interfaces for PMA−3. Node 3 shall support a continuous Extravehicular Activity (EVA) primary translation path across Node 3−to−PMA−3 interface.

E3.1.1.1.1 NODE 3 / PMA−3 CABLE SUPPORT DESCRIPTION

Node 3 provides for external support of PMA−3 utility cables that will not violate EVA keepout/worksite areas or cover identification, instruction, or decal−type labels as specified in Table E3.1.1.1.1−1, EVA Clamp Locations.

E3.1.1.1.2 NODE 3 / PMA−3 EXTERNAL CABLE SUPPORT INTERFACE

The PMA−3 to Node 3 utility umbilicals support interface are external, releasable EVA cable clamps (Figure E3.1.1.1.1−1) located on Node 3 nadir panels C202, C203, C204, and C205 per Alenia drawings No. 9810ND003 and No. 0000ND003. (NCCS−EI−D−A−10−1 side mount type clamps)

E3.1.1.2 PRESSURIZED MATING ADAPTER−3 DESCRIPTION

PMA−3 shall provide a conditioned environment passageway for crew members and equipment when the orbiter is docked to the station.

PMA−3 shall provide power, air, instrumentation, and structural/mechanical interfaces to Node 3. PMA−3 shall scar data, audio, fuel cell water, recharge oxygen, and recharge nitrogen interfaces to Node 3.

E3.1.1.3 INTERFACE PLANE DESCRIPTION

The on−orbit structural/mechanical interface is between the Active Common Berthing Mechanism (ACBM) on Node 3 and the Passive Common Berthing Mechanism (PCBM) on PMA−3 as defined in Figure E3.1.1.3−1. The ACBM to PCBM interface is in accordance with SSP 41148, ACBM to PCBM ICD. The PMA−3/Node 3 external utility interface plane shall be located on the external Node 3 endring as defined in Figure E3.1.1.3−2. The PMA−3/Node 3 internal utility interface plane shall be located at the Node 3 bulkhead as defined in Figure E3.1.1.3−2.

E3.1.1.4 COORDINATE SYSTEM

E3.1.1.4.1 SPACE STATION

The space station coordinate system is defined in SSP 30219, Space Station Reference Coordinate Systems.

E3.1.1.4.2 INTERFACING ELEMENT

E3.2 INTERFACE REQUIREMENTS

E3.2.1 NODE 3 INTERFACE REQUIREMENTS

E3.2.1.2 STRUCTURAL/MECHANICAL ATTACHMENT

E3.2.1.2.1 STRUCTURAL/MECHANICAL INTERFACE PROVISIONS

Node 3 shall supply structural and mechanical provisions for the mechanical attachment of Node 3 to PMA−3 during on−orbit assembly, in accordance with the loads defined in Section E3.2.1.7.4.1−1.

E3.2.1.2.2 BERTHING/ATTACHMENT MECHANISM(S)

Node 3 ACBM shall provide alignment, capture, and rigidization mechanisms for the mechanical attachment of Node 3 to PMA−3 during on−orbit assembly.

Interfaces between the Common Berthing Mechanism and Node 3 shall be in accordance with

SSP 41004.

Node 3 shall provide the ACBM.

The ACBM of Node 3 shall support the capability to attach to and from a pressurized seal with PCBM on PMA−3 in accordance with SSP 41148.

E3.2.1.2.3 INTERCONNECTING UTILITY HARDWARE

The Node 3 interface design shall incorporate provisions for the mechanical connection of power, data, audio, video, air, and sample utilities between Node 3 and PMA−3 during on−orbit assembly. All external connections to PMA−3 shall be established prior to arrival of the Orbiter.

E3.2.1.2.3.1 ACCESSIBILITY

The external utility interface design shall comply with SSP 50005, International Space Station Flight Crew Standard, requirements for accessibility by EVA suited crew members.

All internal utility interface connections between Node 3 and PMA−3 shall be designed to be manually mateable before opening of the hatch of Node 3 in the berthed configuration. Internal utility interface design shall comply with SSP 50005, requirements for Intravehicular Activity (IVA) accessibility, paragraph 12.3.1.

E3.2.1.2.3.2 ELECTRICAL CONNECTORS

The characteristics for electrical connectors shall be in accordance with SSQ 21635, General Specifications for Connectors and Accessories, Electrical, Circular, Miniature, IVA/EVA/Robot Compatible, Space Quality.

E3.2.1.2.3.3 FLUID FITTINGS

The fluid utility parts with service lines through them shall have mounted Type I Quick Disconnect (QD) valves which are self−sealing.

Fluid coupler requirements shall conform to SSP 50005, paragraph 11.10.3.1.

Fluid fittings/couplings used at interelement interfaces shall comply with the specifications shown in Table E3.2.1.2.3.3−2.

Alternate or redundant functional paths shall be separated or protected at the interface such that a credible event which causes the loss of one functional path will not result in the loss of the alternate or redundant functional path(s).

E3.2.1.2.4 THERMAL REQUIREMENTS AT THE PMA−3 INTERFACE PLANE

The thermal interface between Node 3 and PMA−3 is depicted schematically in Figure E3.2.1.2.4−1. Heat is transferred between Node 3 and PMA−3 by conduction across the common berthing mechanism and by radiation between the Node 3 hatch and the interior of

PMA−3.

E3.2.1.2.4.1 PMA−3 PRESSURIZED

Node 3 shall maintain the temperature of the ACBM in the range of 60°F to 113°F without relying on heat transfer across the Common Berthing Mechanism (CBM) interface or radiation heat transfer with PMA−3.

E3.2.1.2.4.2 PMA−3 UNPRESSURIZED

Node 3 shall maintain the temperature of the ACBM berthing plate, and hatch plate in the range of 60°F to 113°F and shall account for the conduction and radiation heat transfer from Node 3 to PMA−3 resulting from the difference in the specified temperature ranges.

E3.2.1.2.5 ACCESS/PASSAGE WAYS

The Node 3 to PMA−3 access/passageway shall be as defined in Figure E3.2.1.2.5−1 after berthing and outfitting of the port. There shall be no protrusions into the passageway envelope.

E3.2.1.2.5.1 EVA PRIMARY TRANSLATION PATH

Node 3 shall provide EVA translation aids in support of a continuos primary translation path across Node 3−to−PMA−3 interface as defined in SSP 30256:001, Space Station Program EVA Standard ICD. Gaps in the path across the interface shall not exceed 24 inches. The diameter of the translation path corridor across the interface shall be a minimum of 43 inches. There shall be no protrusions into the corridor.

E3.2.1.4.1.1.1 POWER QUALITY

The steady state voltage over the interface operating current range shall be within the envelope shown in Table E3.2.1.4.1.1.1−1, Electrical Interface Parameters.

E3.2.1.4.1.1.2 FAULT PROTECTION

Node 3 shall provide protection as shown in Table E3.2.1.4.1.1.1−1.

E3.2.1.5 ELECTRONIC INTERFACES

E3.2.1.5.1 AUDIO CHANNEL

Node 3 shall be scarred to supply audio to PMA−3 for 4 full duplex, analog, electrical audio channels with the following characteristics:

A. Signal Type: The signal shall be balanced. The direct current (DC) resistance to signal ground shall exceed 1.0 megohm.

B. Signal Level: The signal level shall be 0.7 Vrms +/− 3.0 dB into 600 ohms.

C. Frequency Response: The audio signals shall have a frequency response from 200 Hz to 3000 Hz of +/− 3.0 dB referenced to the amplitude response with a 1000 Hz nominal input tone.

Node 3 shall be scarred to support audio reception from PMA−3 for 4 full duplex, analog, electrical audio channels with the following characteristics:

A. Signal Type: The signal shall be balanced. The DC resistance to signal ground shall exceed 1.0 megohm.

B. Signal Level: The signal level shall be 0.7 Vrms +/− 3.0 dB into 600 ohms.

C. Frequency Response: The audio signals shall have a frequency response from 200 Hz to 3000 Hz of +/− 3.0 dB referenced to the amplitude response with a 1000 Hz nominal input tone.

Node 3 shall be scarred to support transmission of one discrete Page keying signal to PMA−3 with the following characteristics:

A. When keyed (on) the voltage shall be less than 0.3 volts with a maximum current of 2.0 milliamperes.

B. When keyed (off) the voltage shall be less than 7.0 volts +/− 1.0 volt with a maximum leakage current of 10 milliamperes.

Node 3 shall be scarred to support audio channel to channel isolation of greater than 54 dB.

Node 3 shall be scarred to support audio crosstalk of greater than 47 dB measured from the talk line of one channel to the listen line of another channel.

E3.2.1.5.2 COMMAND AND DATA HANDLING MIL−STD−1553B INTERFACE

E3.2.1.5.2.1 DATA BUS STANDARDS

The electrical characteristics and data transfer protocol for the Command and Data Handling (C&DH) MIL−STD−1553B interface shall conform to MIL−STD−1553B, Notice 2.

E3.2.1.5.2.2 INTERFACE BUSSES

The following busses shall be scarred at the Node 3 interface:

A. LB ORB−HAB−1 (2 places), B. LB ORB−HAB−2 (2 places).

C. LB SYS–FLY–1 (stub), D. LB SYS–FLY–2 (stub), Each bus shall be scarred to provide dual redundant data paths across each interface.

The data path interfaces for each bus shall conform to the redundancy requirements given in E3.2.1.2.3.6.

E3.2.1.5.2.3 PROVIDE OUTPUT AMPLITUDE

Node 3 shall shall be scarred to provide a minimum signal amplitude of 3.6 volts, peak−to−peak, line−to−line at the PMA−3 interfaces for messages transmitted on Node 3 pass−through MIL−STD−1553 data busses.

E3.2.1.5.2.4 DELETED

E3.2.1.5.3 VIDEO SIGNALS

Node 3 shall be scarred to transmit and receive the video signals described in the following subparagraphs at the PMA−3 interface.

E3.2.1.5.3.1 VIDEO CHANNEL SIGNAL CHARACTERISTICS

The Baseband National Television Standards /System Committee (NTSC) video signal characteristics shall be in accordance with EIA/RS 170−A, EIA Industrial Electronics Tentative Standard No.1 − Color TV Studio Picture Line Amplifier Output Drawing.

E3.2.1.5.4 INSTRUMENTATION INTERFACE

E3.2.1.5.4.1 PMA−3 SHELL AND APAS TEMPERATURE SENSORS

Node 3 shall provide instrumentation signals to PMA−3 for the monitoring and control of PMA−3 shell and Androgynous Peripheral Assembly System (APAS) temperature sensors by Multiplexer /Demultiplexer (MDM) N3−2. The interface between the temperature sensors and the N3−2 MDM shall be in compliance with SSP 30261:002, International Space Station Multiplexer/Demultiplexer (SSMDM) Standard ICD.

E3.2.1.5.4.2 GNC MODING INSTRUMENTATION SIGNALS

Node 3 shall receive 8 discrete input signals from PMA−3 for the monitor of PMA−3 APAS capture/departure sensors by the N3−1 and N3−2 MDMs. The interface between the PMA−3

APAS capture/departure sensors and the N3−1 and N3−2 MDMs shall be in compliance with

SSP 30261:002.

Node 3 shall provide four discrete output signals to PMA−3 for the control Guidance, Navigation and Control (GNC) Moding indicators by the N3−1 and N3−2 MDMs. The interface between the PMA−3 GNC moding indicators and the N3−1 and N3−2 MDMs shall be in compliance with

SSP 30261:002.
