About this file
This is a bid set document issued by Naylor Wentworth Lund Architects on behalf of the Jordan School District for the design and construction of shade canopies at Bingham High School and West Jordan High School in Utah. The project involves the installation of structural steel canopies with 2-foot overhangs on all sides, positioned at 10 feet above finished floor at their high points on the north side, with columns spaced at typical intervals on all corners. The scope of work includes site preparation involving removal of existing concrete slabs and fall protection surfaces where necessary, installation of cast-in-place concrete footings and piers, placement of poured-in-place fall protection surfacing at Bingham High School, and protection of existing landscape and infrastructure during construction. The bid set comprises architectural site plans, structural notes, footing and foundation plans, and detailed specifications prepared in accordance with the 2021 International Building Code.
The design criteria specified in the general structural notes establish a Risk Category III classification with roof live loads of 20 psf and snow loads of 30 psf plus drift, a basic design wind speed of 109 mph, and Seismic Design Category D requirements. Soil bearing pressure is set at 1,500 psf on suitable undisturbed natural soils with a 30-inch frost depth. The structural system utilizes cast-in-place concrete footings with 3,000 psi minimum compressive strength, concrete piers with 4,500 psi strength, and reinforcing steel in accordance with ASTM A615 Grade 60. The pre-fabricated canopy supplier is responsible for providing the steel columns and anchorage details. Special inspections and quality assurance testing are required throughout construction, including verification of soil conditions, concrete strength testing, reinforcement placement, and structural steel welding and bolting in compliance with AISC standards. The document does not include pricing information, contract award dates, or response deadlines.
