22work item 41Main Reduction Gear, RepairsBased upon review of referenced drawings and extensive discussions with the equipment manufacturers representatives it appears that the specified repair to the reduction gear cannot be performed while the vessel is water borne. In order to affect repairs the tailshaft must be drifted aft approximately 12 inches. Unfortunately, while waterborne, the vessel's shaft seal can only accommodate displacement of .400 inches. Will the USCG add drydocking the vessel to the specifications to facilitate disassembly and repair of the reduction gear? Conversely, if the USCG is aware of an approved procedure that will permit repair of the reduction gear while waterborne, can that procedure be provided to the offerors?update to work item 41 listed in Rev 02 & Rev 03
23work item 41Main Reduction Gear, RepairsClose examination of referenced drawings and technical publications indicate that each of the following steps are essential to disassembly and removal of the low speed gear shaft from the reduction gear case; draining of the CPP oil system, disconnecting and removal of the tailshaft coupling from the reduction gear coupling, disconnecting the hydraulic rams from the rudder quadrant and turn the rudder 90 degrees to slide tailshaft aft, disconnecting and removals of the OD box and pitch tube and pitch rod sections from the low speed gear shaft, disassembly and removal of the PTO shaft, disassembly of the tail shaft Cooper bearing, disassembly of the bulkhead shaft seals, disassembly of the mechanical shaft seal. All other information suggests that the pump is portable and that the newly attached block heater could be plugged in at any number of different locations. Is the intent of the item to simply attach the block heater and fit the heater with a cord and male electrical plug?yes, cutter has the pumps and needs block heater installed and associciated circuts to power outlet.
