About this file

This document is an amendment (A002) to a solicitation for a federal construction contract for the CO FLAP SH5(1) Mount Blue Sky Highway project. The key changes in this amendment include:

  • Revising the requirements for conserving topsoil and wetland sod from roadway excavation and embankment areas. Conserved topsoil and sod must be stockpiled separately for later reuse.
  • Adding requirements for controlled blasting methods when excavating rock, and limiting excavation/embankment foundation preparation to areas that can be completed in one shift.
  • Modifying the embankment construction requirements, including conducting a pre-construction meeting and constructing a control strip.
  • Adding a new cross-section drawing (XSS 53+00) to the plans.

The overall project involves reconstructing 0.7 miles of Colorado State Highway 5, which is located in the Arapaho and Roosevelt National Forest and designated as a Scenic Byway. The project is anticipated to cost between $5-10 million and is scheduled for construction from July 2024 to October 2025.
