Questions Answers
1 The Typical Sections on A6 and A7 indicate asphalt is placed in two lifts. Will it be permitted to place asphalt in one 3” lift?
No. Asphalt will be placed in two lifts.
2 Notes on A6 and A7 Typical Sections indicate the shouldering up of the road edge is with Roadway Agg Method 2 pay item 30203-
2000. Note 2 on B6 says Pay Item 30206-0500 is for Roadway
Aggregate Shoulder Finishing. There is no 30206-0500 on the bid form. Please clarify.
See amendment #1.
3 Note 4 on B5 says waste material may be used for select borrow material if it meets section 204 of the FP and the SCRs. Will lime stabilization of the waste material be approved for select borrow?
Gradations and material properties for Select Borrow must be met per the
FP.
4 What are the GPS coordinates of the Pine Hill Cinder Pit? 34°55'58.36"N
111°21'46.95"W
5 Please clarify as stated in the “ Pavement & Materials Report” provide, that all material for the shoulder finishing is to be entirely imported crushed aggregate?
The shouldering material is required to meet the requirements outlined in
SCR Section 302.
6 Was there any culvert cross sections performed, if so, can they be provided
No. Final culvert location and cross sections are provided by the
Contractor and approved by the CO.
7 Section 401. Is a MTV required for the Test Strip(s)? Is a MTV required during placement of miscellaneous items such as turnouts or parking areas?
A MTV is required for the test strip(s). A MTV is not required for ancillary pavement placement such as turnouts and approaches.
8 Item# A0780/ Pay Item #602220-1800 calls for the concrete box extensions to be precast. The details provided on the plan sheets
T5- T13 are for cast in place concrete. Are the concrete box extension to be precast or cast in place?
Precast and cast-in-place extensions are acceptable.
9 There is no Bid Item for Temporary Concrete Barrier or
Temporary Impact Attenuators. Due to the site conditions and protection of the traveling public as well as the workers would dictate the need for these devices. The need is for either cast in place or precast (which will require a closure pour) concrete box culverts.
These items should be considered subsidiary to items of work that a contractor feels they are necessary.
10 Section 157, SWPPP. The specifications appear to be written around California requirements. The Arizona DEQ requirements for SWPPP Developer and Erosion Control Supervisor are less stringent. Mormon Lake is neither Impaired or Unique
Water. Since costs are always a concern, we suggest using local specification and standards.
