About this file

This amendment to a federal solicitation provides answers to questions regarding a construction project for modernization of an air traffic control center. The Federal Aviation Administration is seeking offers for the Mod 4 Area Phase II Modernization Project at the Miami Air Route Traffic Control Center. Work includes completing a fire detection conduit loop on the first floor and extending an existing attic loop to new heat detector locations in the mechanical room. Viking heat detectors will be government-furnished equipment. Offerors must attend a mandatory site visit on June 7, 2023 to be eligible for award of this set-aside for Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Businesses. The estimated price range for this requirement is $500,000 to $1 million, and payment and performance bonds are required.

1. Nowhere in the plans or the specifications have we found any information covering these Heat Detectors.

a. What is to be supplied & installed both MI wire & heat detector modules?

Answer: The Viking heat detectors are being provided as GFE from the original contract.

Contractor to provide 2HR MI cable for entire 1st floor loop plus amount required to extend existing attic loop to new Viking locations in mechanical room. Note: Heat detection conduit loop for 1st floor needs to be completed and the attic loop needs to be redirected and extended to new Viking location in mechanical room.

b. Who supplies the heat detector modules?

Answer: Viking heats are GFE.

c. If contractor supplied what type of heat detector modules are to be supplied?

Answer: See b above

d. How many heat detector modules total are to be installed?

Answer: Please reference Project drawing Y201. General location of all heats is designated with an “H” symbol.

e. Where are all the exact locations stated in the bid documents these are to be installed at in each room & hallways.

Answer: See answer to d. Reference Viking Heat detector data sheets for distance requirement from individual space sprinkler heads

f. What is the connection point from what we believe to understand is contractors are to install a junction box at a conduit run that ends by mechanical room.

Answer: The Viking heat detection loops start and ens at the main Viking panels in the Mod 4 mechanical room.

g. If Heat Detectors are to be installed in all locations are these daisy chained back to this junction box or will each heat detectors have a separate homerun MI cable to each heat detector connected at a location.

Answer: Reference Viking heat detector data sheet for installation information. In general heat detectors are installed in a single loop daisy chain style format.

h. Then does each heat detector connection runs back to a control panel so when heat is detected FAA has an alarm response to the exact area that is alarming.

Answer: No. All heats are part of the same loop and do not provide any zone location information other than affected space.
