RDU ATCT Parking Lot Improvements
As of 12.20.2024
1. Is the sagging retention wall to be addressed as a part of this project? No.
2. Is the stairwell in this photo being addressed at all in this project: No.
3. Note 25 on the "Site Plan - New Work" drawing states "all signage shall be replaced with new". Please advise how many signs of what type are to be replaced. Two (2) motorcycle parking and two (2) HCP.
4. Please confirm we are not demoing or relocating the storage shed/awning. Confirmed
5. Are the light poles a part of this projects scope? No
6. Will we be able to demo parking lot and remove subbase without affecting underground electrical feeders to the light poles? The expected depth of the underground electrical conduits serving the light poles is 24” below finished grade. All underground utilities shall be located in advance of any physical work (dwg 002, note 3). If the location of utilities yields that any underground utility is at depth that will interfere with excavation, the vendor shall submit a plan to protect that utility, line, or pipe.
7. There are concerns about the path into the parking lot being too small to bring in trucks/equipment. Is there any alternate path into the parking lot to allow for larger trucks and equipment? There is not an alternate path into the facility parking lot.
8. Do the Superintendent, SSHO and QC Manager need to be 3 separate individuals? No
9. Please provide the site visit attendee sign in sheet. This list is unavailable to be provided.
10. Is there a bulk water fill i.e a hydrant or water source we can pump from for grading operations and dust control in close proximity? There is a ¾” hose bib connection available at the ATCT. Additionally, with advanced coordination with site FAA, there may be fire hydrant use available adjacent to the ATCT.
11. What type of traffic barricades and traffic control signage are we required to provide? Traffic barricades should be of adequate size to prevent traffic from entering work areas. Signage should be adequate to alert occupants of temporary traffic patterns and restricted/work areas.
12. Is the Contractor responsible for hiring a testing company to check the Density every 50’ and Cores every 100’? Or is the FAA/Owner providing the testing? If the Contractor is providing the testing, are there any other testing or reporting requirements that they need to include the cost for? The Contractor will be responsible for testing in accordance with specification section 312000, sections 3.15 through 3.17 and specification section 321216, section 3.5 and 3.8.
Reporting requirements shall include test method, location and test results.
13. Are there any existing or proposed grading plans? An old facility drawing is provided for reference, but has not been verified.
14. What is liquid marking to prevent overspray? Line marking using liquid versus spray.
15. Is a prime coat required? Prime coat is required in accordance with detail 2 on dwg 005.
16. What is the location of, and how many motorcycle parking and handicap signs are there?
Two (2) of each.
17. Is there a place to list the prime contractor’s socio-economic category when submitting an offer? It looks like it’s just on the Uniform Bipartisan Infrastructure Law Funds Report if awarded the project. There is not a specific place, but it can be listed on a cover letter with proposal submission.
18. Are there any cores for the existing stone and asphalt that show the current depths? I see what is listed on the drawings, but we wanted to know whether this is representative of the entire site. Unfortunately, due to time constraints, cores were not able to be taken/extracted.
19. Is the “backfill and regrade the depressions in the island from the tree removal” referring to tree removal completed by the Owner/FAA/Others? Please confirm whether there is any tree removal required by the Contractor for this project. The tree removal refers to trees that were previously removed by others and not properly backfilled. There is no tree removal required under this contract.
20. Please confirm that the sensing cable replacement is part of the Contractor’s Scope of Work.
The plans state to “remove and replace the cable associated with the automatic gate system. The gate system is HySecurity 222Ex St.” If this is a contractor requirement, is there a preferred Contractor or vendor for this work? The expectation is that the existing sensing cable will not be able to be re-used and a new cable will be required. This is a contract requirement under this contract. We do not have a preferred vendor.
21. For the storage shed and awning area, it is not recommended or feasible to excavate or compact up against the storage shed solid sides. For all sides of the shed and awning, we recommend staying at least 1’ away from the edges. A 1’ buffer is reasonable and acceptable.
22. The existing catch basin drain in the north side of the lot by the storage shed is currently filled with sediment, debris, etc. Does the Contractor need to clean and/or jet it out? Yes
23. For the gate area, currently the asphalt under the gate is higher than the curb gutter pan and is somewhat uneven across. Is the intent to have a set clearance from the bottom of the gate to the asphalt? For security purposes, it would make more sense to have a narrow gap between the gate and the asphalt so that someone could not fit under there. What is the proposed clearance depth between the bottom of the gate and the asphalt? Proposed clearance is 2”.
24. Please confirm the correct pavement design. Is the correct pavement design 3.0” I19.0C and 2.0” S9.5B? Yes, in addition to the 10” aggregate base (ABC).
25. In the Asphalt Paving specifications Section 321216 - 1, Part 2 Products, 2.4 Mixes, it states: “3. Binder Course: NCDOT S9.5A Surface Course: NCDOT SF9.5A” S9.5A is not a binder course. In addition, S9.5A and SF9.5A no longer exist and were replaced with S9.5B mixes. In 2018, the NCDOT changed the mixtures and labels for the mixes. For binder course, the current mix is I19.0C rather than I19.0B. The current fine surface mixes specified are no longer available. The old S9.5B became S9.5C which is the coarse surface mix. The current S9.5B is a fine surface mix typically used in parking lots, and we think this is the surface mix that was meant to be specified since this is what replaced the SF9.5A. 10” Aggregate Base:
ABC, 3” Binder course: I19.0C, 2” Surface Course: S9.5B
As of 12.19.2024
1. Can you clarify what asphalt mix types we are to use for this project, is it standard NCDOT mixes or P-401 airport mixes, I cannot find in the specs the mix type? 10” Aggregate Base Course: ABC, 3” Binder Course: I19.0C, 2” Surface Course: S9.5B.
2. Can you clarify if we are to use NCDOT ABC or P-209 Aggregate on the bid form it states we have 45 days to complete the project but in the bid specs it states 120 days, which is correct?
Use NCDOT ABC. 120 calendar days.
3. Are there any liquated damages for the project? No
4. Can you confirm that the bid form can be emailed to you on the due date? Confirmed
5. Can you confirm how many copies of the bid form need to be emailed if in fact we can email the bid to you, the bid form is a bit confusing? One bid form, acknowledgement of Amendments, bid bond, and 2 Organizational Experience Forms.
6. Do you have an anticipated start date for the project? Start depends on when all submittals will be approved. It is an assumption it is 15 days after contract award.
7. Can you provide scaled drawings for this project? Scaled drawings are not available.
Drawings are dimensioned.
