Q&A Sheet

6973GH-24-Q-00242: MGM Gravel

1. Please confirm the definition of reclaimed gravel. Does reclaiming mean that we are to bring material/gravel back into place after blading/clipping? We do not believe the intent is for the gravel to be screened but please confirm.

A. The intent of reclaiming gravel is to salvage as much of the existing gravel as practically possible. After many years of road traffic and weathering, much of the gravel has sunken. The intent of reclaiming gravel is to bring sunken gravel back to surface to be reused.

2. In reviewing SOW, #1.6, it appears we are to create a crown in the road to enhance drainage.

In visiting the site during the 8/5 site visit, the road leading up to the 400 ft. section from Felder Road is cut into the side of a hill. If a crown is to be created, there is concern that water will be dammed up on one side of the road and will create future erosion issues. Would it be acceptable to grade the road to allow water to sheet flow across the road and follow the natural grades and hill at this location only?

A. The road shall be constructed to ensure there are no opportunities for standing, ponding or dammed water. Road construction shall ensure there are no opportunities for erosion.

3. In reviewing SOW, #1.1-6, it appears we are to blade/cut to remove vegetation or first 2", then re-establish the road, reclaim the existing gravel, provide and install new gravel, then create a crown in the road. If a crown in the road (at areas not cut into side of hill if the above RFI is answered to not crown the road leading up to the 400 ft. section from Felder Road) is desired to be made with the gravel, there could be lighter amounts of gravel on the shoulders than what is at the crown. This could create future erosion issues. Would it be acceptable to create the crown in the road during the "re-stablish road" phase?

A. Contractor can crown road in “phase” that results in a road surface that allows for proper drainage and no opportunities for erosion. Although reclaiming gravel may require less gravel to be purchased, the new road surface shall be a consistent depth for the entire dimensions of the road.
