6973GH-23-Q-00135 Salmon, ID - RFI 05/02/2023
Q1. What is the steepest grade where the proposed Jack fence will be installed.
See NW-D-112_41889-2 for topographic information.
Q2. What is the expected soil condition where the proposed Jack fence posts will be installed.
See attached photos. Terrain is generally dry and with rocks scattered throughout the fencing area.
Q3. Will the Jack fence be with wire or rails per STD_941-40-01?
With Rails per Detail F2 referenced in STD_941-40-01 for Wildlife.
Q4. Will the Jack fence cross member posts be resting on the soil surface or imbedded in earth or concrete per STD_941-40-01.
Design intent is to rest on soil/rock surface, due to existing dry and rocky terrain. If further stability is required for construction, key post into ground until stability is achieved. It is not anticipated that any imbedding is required.
Q5. What are the management requirements on site during the construction phase of the project?
For example: Does the General Contractor need a Project Manager level on site at all times?
Can the General Contractor have a Superintendent level employee on site at all times?
Can the fence subcontractor have a Superintendent level employee on site at all time?
Project manager level personnel is not required to be on site at all times. Superintendent level employees’ area acceptable for onsite needs.
Q6. With the jackleg fence the posts are not set in the concrete the posts, rails, and bracing all brace off one another to help stay standing. With the grade being so steep off of the flat top area would we be able to excavate a small walking level path around the hill where the fence will be installed? This will help keep the fence sitting level ground?
The excavation for the walking level path is acceptable, but will not be required. Existing terrain is mostly scattered with rocks and boulders. DWG STD_941-40-01 provides a detail for the construction of the jack leg fence on uneven ground. Other similar projects have accomplished the fence construction on similar grades as well.
Q7. I have attached a screenshot of the plans page 2 in the construction notes, note 3 references to "install Jack Leg fence type reference topography map sheet NW-D-112-41889-2", I can not find this page or drawing of the jack leg fence on any of the pages of the plans. I am wondering if you can provide that information where to find the drawings or specifications on this detail?
