Questions and Answers on SIR 6973GH-21-R-00057 RDU 5R and 23L MALSR Shelter Replacement Project

General Questions

1. Anticipated Start Date – Please provide estimate on when the project will start. Project start date will be based on availability of contractor, RE, and approval by RDU Airport. The replacement shelters are already on site.

2. 7460 Airspace Study – We assume this will be the responsibility of the FAA? FAA will handle the Airspace Study

3. Concrete Testing – Will 7 day and 28 day break tests be required for concrete used piers? No concrete testing will be required on site.

4. Storage of Electronics In Existing Shelter – Is it acceptable to temporarily set the existing shelter at the existing site to store the electronics in until the new shelter is set and ready? Or will the old shelter need to be transported to an offsite storage location while the new shelter is being installed? It is typical for the existing equipment to be stored in the old shelter while the new shelter is set in place.

5. Earth Spoils Testing – Will any spoils removed from the site require testing for contamination? No earth spoils testing is anticipated.

6. Required Liability Limits – What level of liability insurance will both the FAA and the airport operator require for this project? Reference SIR Clauses 3.4.1-10 & 3.4.1-12 https://fast.faa.gov/contractclauses.cfm.

7. Staging Areas – We did not see any information in the drawings or specs about staging areas. It appears that these two facilities are outside the RSA and LOC critical areas can we use a small area next to the work site? The local FAA and RE will help coordinate a storage area before the construction start.

8. Anticipate MALSR Outages – Please provide the anticipated duration for each MALSR facility outages. MALSR Outage durations will be determined in the findings of the airspace study. FAA will provide that information to all parties.

Drawing Questions

1. RDU-1704176-C001, Note 7 – Are the shelters already on site or being stored somewhere where we will have to pick/load them & transport to site? As opposed to being delivered directly to the site from DuPont and off-loaded directly onto new foundation? The shelters are being held at a facility just outside of the runway area. Contractor will be required to transport the shelters across the airfield.

2. RDU-1704176-E002 – Please clarify which items on the material list will be installed & wired by DuPont, if any. The material list on E002 is provided by DuPont. All items on that list are already installed in the shelter.

3. Multiple Drawings – Please confirm the meaning of the term “ETR”. Existing to remain (ETR).

Specification Question

1. Section 1.4(B) Note 4 – This note states “Raise surrounding grade of site to accommodate for proper drainage and maintainability in wet area…….using crushed stone” Can you confirm the area around the site is asphalt? Are any site pictures available? The existing surrounding area is covered in gravel. There are no drainage issues anticipated as long as the surrounding is restored to match previous conditions. Photos are attached in two separate word documents.
