1. Update the following on the Statement of Work (Attachment 0001): Section III. Scope of
Work for Field Inspector - Option A , Part A. Qualifications to include the following language: Experience logging large landslides in other areas will be considered but will require documentation showing experience logging similar geotechnical materials, depths to slip planes, and identification of nested landslides using similar drilling methods as required for this project. Documentation requires a minimum of five different projects to be reviewed including Field logs, gINT logs and in-depth geotechnical/geological reports discussing each project. Experience logging large landslides on the west side of the
Pacific Northwest Cascade Mountains is preferred.

III. SCOPE OF WORK FOR FIELD INSPECTOR - OPTION A
A. Qualifications
Provide an experienced (minimum five years) engineering geologist or geotechnical engineer to act as a field inspector for this drill project. A minimum of four years of experience logging large landslides on the west side of the Pacific Northwest Cascade Mountains and data collection.
Provide a list of sites and dates demonstrating the required experience. Provide test boring examples of field (hand-written) logs and final gINT logs to WFLHD for review prior to the final selection of the field inspector. Allow three working days for review of logs and approval of the field inspector. Experience logging large landslides in other areas will be considered but will require documentation showing experience logging similar geotechnical materials, depths to slip planes, and identification of nested landslides using similar drilling methods as required for this project. Documentation requires a minimum of five different projects to be reviewed including Field logs, gINT logs and in-depth geotechnical/geological reports discussing each project. Experience logging large landslides on the west side of the Pacific Northwest Cascade Mountains is preferred.
B. Test Boring Logs
Complete a detailed field log in accordance with Federal Lands Highway – Soil Identification Guidelines and Federal Lands Highway - Rock Characterization Guidelines (Attachments 0008 and 0009). The field log should also include date started, date completed, personnel on-site, equipment information, drilling methods and size of tooling, location information, pertinent driller’s comments and other relevant information.
Provide a GPS position in Longitude and Latitude in decimal degrees on each boring log.
Electronic gINT logs will be produced based on the field logs and sent to the COR for review.
The COR will send their electronic gINT Library to the field inspector to be used for all boring logs. Provide scanned copies of the hand-written field logs to the COR in pdf format on a weekly basis during the progression of the drilling activities. COR will review the draft gINT logs, make changes as necessary, and send them back for final gINT log revisions within 14 calendar days of receipt of both the draft gINT logs and the samples by the Contractor. This process may require multiple revisions. The final version of the gINT logs will be submitted to COR within 14 calendar days of receipt of the comments.
C. Materials
Supply resealable bags, tape measures, writing utensils, hammers, knives, thermometer, and any other equipment needed for drill inspection and test hole logging.
D. Samples
Record the recovery of each split spoon sample, shelby tube sample, and core run to the nearest tenth of a foot.
Retain all split spoon samples collected in one-gallon resealable bags. Label all samples with the project name, boring number, depth, date, and sample number. Store groups of samples from each hole in separate containers and label each container with the project number, boring number, and date the boring was completed.
Attachment 0001
The field inspector is responsible for the care and transport of Shelby tube samples to WFLHD Materials Laboratory at 610 E. 5th Street Vancouver, WA 98661. Separate and place samples in individual bags when different soil types are recovered in a single split spoon sample. Provide a sample number designation of A, B, C, etc. for separated samples. Store and handle thin wall tubes in a vertical position where inadvertent bumping or disturbance will not occur and do not allow Shelby tube samples to freeze.
Place core in the box like you’re reading a book, starting at the top and working from left to right and down with depth. Label the beginning and end of each core run with the boring number and depth. Mechanical breaks in the rock core should be marked with an X across the mechanical break. Each core box shall have the project name, boring number, depth range in the core box, and date.
If the rock is moisture sensitive or contains soil infilling, wrap the recovered core in plastic wrap to preserve the core for observation and possible testing.
When coring or augering in rock and the subsurface material is characterized as highly weathered, very weak to weak rock, take SPT samples to gauge the relative density of the very weak to weak rock material.
E. Water Level Observation
Check and record water levels and borehole cave-in depths for the following cases in all borings, as applicable:
• when advancing the borehole after wet soil samples are encountered
• when the borehole is stopped at the end of the work shift, and before resuming drilling the following shift
• after reaching the bottom of the borehole, and before pulling the augers/casing out of the ground, and
• after pulling the augers/casing out of the ground.
Water levels must be reported on every field log as described above. If groundwater is not observed at any time during drilling, after bailing the hole of fluids, or during withdrawal note “Groundwater not observed” on the field log and record the cave-in depth upon completion of the hole. Do not record water levels unless the hole has been bailed or has been left open overnight. Record ground water depths to the nearest tenth of a foot.
Connect the VWP to the data logger in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions (available at http://www.slopeindicator.com/pdf/manuals/vw-piezometer-manual.pdf). The COR will furnish the VWP, data logger, batteries, and the VWP Calibration Certificate. Connect the data logger within 48 hours after the VWP is grouted-in. Input the TI Calibration Factors, set the clock, and set the data logger to record every 12 hours after connection. Download the data and send an excel spreadsheet with the first 7 calendar days of data to the COR for review.
