About this file
This document is an Addendum to a Request for Quotation (RFQ) issued by Argonne National Laboratory for a Helium Liquefier and Helium Recovery System. The solicitation (5-S176-Q-00748-00) supports a Department of Energy Early Career Research Project focused on a High-Luminosity Active Nuclear Target for Recoil Tagging Measurements. The addendum provides detailed responses to seven vendor questions, clarifying technical specifications including system connection to a detector and cryo target for nuclear physics experiments, helium recovery requirements, and site capabilities.
The required system components include a Helium Recovery System with low-pressure storage, helium recovery compressor, high/medium pressure storage, helium purifier, connecting gas lines, and control system. The Helium Liquefier specifications include a cryocooler/cold head compressor, liquid helium storage dewar (>50L), liquid helium extraction line, and control system. Vendors are instructed to submit proposals with completed ANL-70 Request for Quotation, ANL-70B Pre-Award Information, and a "Lowest Price Technically Acceptable- Procurement Strategy" addendum, with itemized pricing for all operational components. The solicitation is managed by the Department of Energy Office of Science and responses will be publicly posted on SAM.gov.

09/16/2025 This addendum is being issued to modify the subject REQUEST FOR Quotation (RFQ) 5-S176-Q-00748-00 as follows:
Response to questions as follows
1. Which type of instrument will the system be connected to? (NMR, cryostat, etc.)
a. Detector and cryo target for NP experiments.
2. How many instruments will the system be connected to?
a. One. It is part of an R&D project which will be developed.
3. Is a recovery line in place already? If not, please confirm that this is out of the RFQ scope.
a. There is no recovery line in place. It should be part of the helium recovery system.
4. What is the largest filling you are doing to your instrument? (e.g. 200 LLHe in 1 hour)
a. The cool down will likely use > 30L LHe. The operating volume will be roughly 5L
5. Do you have any limitations in terms of footprint or height?
a. Not in particular. Lab space has some vaulted ceiling areas if extra height is needed.
6. Is LN2 available on site?
a. Yes.
7. Is cooling water available on site?
a. Yes.
Request is for a small scale system that should be quoted complete.
