About this file

This document is a Questions and Answers (Q&A) file for Solicitation Number 460297, specifically for a Laser Ablation Sample Preparation Tool procurement by Brookhaven Science Associates, LLC (BSA) for the Center for Functional Nanomaterials (CFN) at Brookhaven National Laboratory. The Q&A addresses three key technical clarifications regarding laser specifications, including the preference for a femtosecond laser and openness to multiple laser solutions.

The key clarifications include: (1) BSA is interested in a femtosecond laser and open to solutions with multiple lasers that include a femtosecond laser, (2) while a femtosecond laser is preferred, alternative laser types meeting technical requirements are acceptable, and (3) if proposing two different solutions, vendors must submit separate technical and cost proposals for proper evaluation. This Q&A provides vendors with guidance on proposal submission and technical approach for the laser ablation sample preparation tool procurement.

460297 Laser Ablation Sample Preparation Tool Questions and Answers

1. Paragraph 3.1.5 of the Technical Specifications states:

"A femtosecond laser is preferred. We are interested in the possibility of multiple lasers being incorporated."

Does this mean you are looking at 1 tool with multiple lasers?

We are interested in a femtosecond laser, we are open to solutions with multiple lasers that include a femtosecond laser.

2. Are you saying the group is open to other laser types in place of the femtosecond laster?

A femtosecond laser is preferred as stated in the technical specifications, but we are open to other types of lasers that meet or exceed all technical requirements. We are also open to solutions in-addition to the femtosecond laser as stated in 1 above.

3. If we propose two different solutions would we need to submit two different proposals?

In the case where two different solutions are proposed, two different technical and cost proposals should be proposed so they can be evaluated properly.
