Understanding the history of racism. Moving toward equality in the world.

The Justice Journey Alliance, Leadership Foundation of Chicago invites next-generation leaders to participate in a truly life-changing experience. While many acknowledge that America continues to suffer from systemic racism, few fully grasp the depth of its roots or the extent of its impact on our communities.

To support next-generation leaders committed to advancing racial equity, we have developed The Bridge to Equal Rights — a four-day immersive experience. Participants will journey through key Civil Rights landmarks in the American South, engage with social justice experts, and envision a society where equality is realized.

Our goal is to empower justice advocates to develop meaningful action steps that lead to lasting and transformative change.

Where will The Justice Journey Experience take you?

At the Justice Journey Alliance, Leadership Foundation of Chicago, we consider the journey toward justice to be a lifelong quest. For many who join us, their hearts are already aligned with the cause—they are simply seeking the path forward. For others, it is a learning experience. Wherever you are on your personal journey, The Justice Journey Experience will take you to places you have never been. We will also have time for lively interaction along the way and to sample the best of southern cuisine.

Our Itinerary: March 4 - 7, 2026 A select small group of leaders will depart by plane for Atlanta, Georgia. From there, our private charter bus will travel the path of the Civil Rights movement. Each day, we will have the opportunity to learn from one another, as well as justice experts at each location.

Atlanta, Georgia: Our focus will be the Apex Museum and the Martin Luther King, Jr. National Historical locations. In addition, we tour the National Center for Civil and Human Rights and hear a profound message on 'A New Vision for Building the Beloved Community' in a city that served as a hub for the movement of equal rights.

Montgomery, Alabama:

We will visit two powerful sites developed by the Equal Justice Initiative: the acclaimed new National Memorial for Peace and Justice, which honors those whose lives were taken by lynching, and The Legacy Museum, which follows America’s history of racial injustice from enslavement to mass incarceration.

Selma, Alabama: We will follow the path that protestors took on Bloody Sunday, departing from the Brown Chapel on their march to Montgomery, where they encountered Alabama State Troopers waiting to attack as they crossed the Edmund Pettus Bridge, and we will hear from an eyewitness to that day.

Birmingham, Alabama: In the city that became a symbol of some the worst violence against Black people, we will visit the Sixteenth Street Baptist Church, where four African American girls were killed during a Sunday School bombing, and Kelly Ingram Park, where protestors were attacked by police with fire hoses and dogs. We will spend several hours touring the Civil Rights Institute, a museum that offers in-depth insights into the conflicts.

We will return to Atlanta for our flight home, with a greater understanding of our history and a vision for a shared future of opportunity and diversity in our workplaces.
