C. Appendix A provides a list of facility preferred items. See 1.1.D for Substitution requirements.

D. Substitutions are subject to COR, and shop personnel approval. Substitutions and deviations must be specifically noted and addressed per spec 01 60 00. Substitutions shall be based upon the cost to the item indicated in Appendix A or if not listed here accordingly per the basis of design. Substitution cost to the facility is much greater to the facility if a cheaper or alternate product is selected and total costs will require consideration if substitutions are to be considered, to include the potential for replacing any existing products throughout the facility to ensure standardization and familiarity for the facility is not compromised due to the substitution. Any costs associated with the substitution shall be the contractor’s responsibility to include all design, installation, training and replacement of existing spares and stock.

E. The final payment on any construction component may be up to 10% of the original contract amount.

F. Items listed and detailed here are to be considered as in addition to the specifications. P. NALCO currently maintains the facilities chilled water chemical treatment. Any additional chilled water piping is required to be flushed per NALCOs requirements and the contractor shall cover the cost for any additional chemicals required due to the new piping.

a. An initial flush with fresh water should be performed to remove any major debris. Iron levels should be tested iron is generally recommended to be below 1ppm before the passivation chemistry is added.

b. After the initial flush, cleaning and passivation chemistry should be circulated for 48 hours at 3-5ft/ second. I would assume they have a separate skid with a pump capable of the circulation?

c. The flush removing the cleaner should be tested again for iron levels. Most specifications call for iron levels below 1ppm and conductivity to be in range of make-up water. My recommendation is to make sure the iron levels are tested and flushed until they are at or below what the loop is currently at.

d. After that- to charge the additional water volume- we will need to ensure they are using a compatible treatment.

e. It is important to make sure that the addition is cleaned and passivated properly. I have seen a good number of jobs where a relatively small section of piping was added and not pre-treated properly, completely contaminating the entire loop with leaching iron resulting in clogged heat exchangers and unnecessary additional corrosion to the rest of the loop.
