About this file

This is a UL Solutions Product iQ technical certification document for a nonbearing wall fire-resistance assembly (Design No. V497), certified November 15, 2022, for compliance with ANSI/UL 263 standards in the United States and CAN/ULC-S101 standards in Canada.

The assembly achieves 1-hour or 2-hour fire-resistance ratings and specifies five primary components: (1) floor and ceiling runners fabricated from minimum 25 MSG corrosion-protected steel with 1-1/4 inch minimum legs, fastened 24 inches on-center maximum; (2) steel studs of identical material composition spaced maximum 24 inches on-center and cut 3/8 to 3/4 inch less than assembly height, with an alternate option available from Marino/Ware (Viper25™); (3) laminating compound powder-type for bonding wallboard layers; (4) gypsum board from National Gypsum Co available in multiple configurations—two layers of 5/8-inch panels for 1-hour rating, three layers for alternate 1-hour rating, or four layers for 2-hour rating—with specific screw spacing and installation requirements; and (5) joint tape and compound for finishing. All products marked with UL or cUL certification marks are required. The document emphasizes that Authorities Having Jurisdiction must be consulted for specific installation and use requirements, and that technical service staff from product manufacturers should be contacted for field issue resolution.
