About this file

This document is a comprehensive Traditional Asbestos Abatement specification for the Wilmington VA Medical Center EHRM Infrastructure Upgrades project (Project No. 460-22-700). The specification details extensive requirements for safely removing asbestos-containing materials (ACM) from specific building areas, with a focus on Class I negative pressure enclosure asbestos abatement procedures. Key requirements include establishing regulated work areas, using specialized decontamination facilities, implementing negative air pressure systems, wet removal techniques, proper personal protective equipment, air monitoring, visual inspections, and final clearance testing.

The specification covers multiple technical aspects of asbestos abatement, including detailed procedures for worker protection, site preparation, ACM removal methods, waste disposal, and project closeout. Contractors must provide comprehensive documentation, including an Asbestos Hazard Abatement Plan, personnel qualifications, medical surveillance records, and training certifications. The project involves potential asbestos removal from wall cavities, mechanical rooms, and potentially contaminated areas, with strict adherence to OSHA, EPA, and state regulatory requirements. The abatement work is part of infrastructure upgrades at the Wilmington VA Medical Center, with a focus on ensuring worker safety and environmental protection during the asbestos removal process.
