98. 10/29/24
If there are areas within the hospital that will receive new vertical pathways to a data port, will the VA permit the use of surfaced mounted pathways in those areas where it is a masonry, brick, or concrete substrate?
Telecom
Yes, for singular drops. It is anticipated that data outlet locations should be existing and the existing route/conduit should be re-used for the new cabling.
For vertical pathways between floors, with multiple drops, it is preferred to recycle 12x2 ladder tray from demolished TR spaces for cable support between floors.
99. 10/29/24 l the VA permit end user devices to be taken out of use prior to the cutover/termination of new CAT 6A cabling to the new patch panels/racks.
Telecom
For small periods. It should be planned to pull cabling to area of replacement and then limit outage for each device to a minimum. It is very important to coordinate closely with the VA on space use and occupancy. In many cases, outlets are being reduced from 3 or 4 drops down to 2. This allows for the demo of 2 drops and removal of cable to allow for the new cable to be run in the exiting back box and terminated. Furniture may be moved away from the way for a period of time.
100. 10/29/24
Will the VA require cutovers/termination/migration of new CAT 6A Cable to be completed during off hours or on weekends?
Telecom
Assume 30% of cutovers to be performed during non standard working hours. Other areas shall be coordinated with the VA on a weekly basis 30 days before mobilizing in each area.

105. 10/29/24
Is the VA going to require existing communication cable to be demoed and removed from the data port back to the telecommunication room?
Telecom
Yes. Data drops replaced at the work area outlets is to be demoed. There may be data cables in the tray that are routed for special systems, which are to remain.
Voice cables that are active in the WAO areas are to remain as is. Any data cable demoed as a part of this project shall be removed in their entirety.
106. 10/29/24
Is the VA going to allow a contractor to fill a raceway with new or existing cable that is in excess of 40% of the cable tray capacity?
Telecom
Although it is not recommended by TIA to fill more than 40% of a cable tray, limited spacing in the corridor ceiling may play a factor. Exceeding the 40% or using J Hooks may be necessary in some situations. Since a data port reduction was performed on the entire hospital, there should be significantly less drops than are present today.
107. 10/29/24
Is the general contractor required to follow the fill capacity mandated by the manufacturer of the fire sleeving to be utilized on this project?
Telecom Yes. Fill calculations were run on sleeves. All sleeves were calculated with at least 20% available capacity.
108. 10/29/24 Will the VA provide an asbestos and lead paint survey for every building on campus?
