1.2 GENERAL INTENTION
A. Contractor shall completely prepare site for building operations, including demolition and removal of existing structures, and furnish labor and materials and perform work for the installation of automatic dosing of monochloramine through a mixture of reagent chemicals that will eliminate Legionella bacteria from the main potable hard water system and building level potable soft water system. The irrigation system will be disconnected from the main potable system in a later solicitation and contract. Additionally, an Oxidation Inhibitor system will installed in the Boiler Plant adjacent to the monochloramine generator system. It will inject an inhibitor that will slow the corrosion process.
The Scope of Work will also include the removal or abandonment of plumbing dead-legs. For this SOW the dead-leg is defined as being at least 10 feet long and visibly terminated. The Hot Springs facilities were built in the early 1900’s consisting of plumbing behind stucco walls. Over the years the plumbing system has expanded leaving dead-legs as a shower became a closet, or a domicile changed to administration building. Through attempts have been made to locate and identify dead-legs; the vast majority existing behind walls and can only be confirmed on existing plumbing drawings and details. The cost of demolishing stucco walls to verify and remove dead-legs would be very costly and not within this scope of work. However, there are a number of confirmed dead-legs that can be removed or abandoned in place and the contractor will need take careful steps to avoid cutting active lines and in such cases be prepared to repair the water line including pre-checks for isolation valves to shut off water in case of incidents as required by drawings and specifications.
