About this file
This document is a Heterotrophic Plate Count laboratory report for VA Central California Health Care System (HCS), dated May 21, 2025. The report details bacterial testing results for multiple water lines across different rooms and floors of Building 1, with all samples showing bacterial counts less than 10 CFU/mL. The Infection Control Standards for VA Clinics outline specific actions based on bacterial thresholds: lines with over 500 CFU/mL must be taken out of service and shocked, lines with 200-500 CFU/mL should be shocked and remain in service, and lines with under 200 CFU/mL can continue current disinfection protocols. The samples were collected on May 21, 2025, processed on May 22, 2025, and the report was issued on June 2, 2025. The laboratory is ELAP certified in compliance with New York State Department of Health and Florida Administrative Code for environmental and drinking water microbiology testing.

Subject: VA Central California HCS, Q3 FY2025 Heterotrophic Plate Count Results
Dear Mr. Horn, The Laboratory has completed the heterotrophic plate count analysis on samples taken from the VA Central California HCS on May 21, 2025, and delivered to the laboratory on May 22, 2025.
The Infection Control Standards for VA Clinics indicate these actions at the following bacterial thresholds:
1. Detection greater than 500 CFU/mL: Take the line out of service, shock all the lines, and retest to determine treatment efficacy.
2. Detection greater than 200 CFU/mL but less than 500 CFU/mL: Lines may remain in service, but it is recommended that they be shocked again.
3. Detection less than 200 CFU/mL: No additional action -- Continue current disinfection protocols.
