About this file

This document is a detailed technical installation manual and method statement for a Hemodialysis Water Treatment System at the VA Medical Center in San Francisco, California. The project involves a comprehensive water treatment system installation by B. Braun Medical, including multiple components such as a Carbon Tank (7 CU FT), Hurricane Filter Assembly, EcoRO DIA II 1400 HT Reverse Osmosis system, Hot Rinse Smart 30 system, and a 29 KVA Transformer. The installation is divided into two phases, with specific requirements for electrical connections, plumbing, equipment placement, and system commissioning.

The installation method requires careful coordination between B. Braun Medical, the VA Medical Center, and a contractor, with detailed responsibilities outlined for each party. Key requirements include providing proper electrical and water supply, removing existing equipment, installing new water treatment infrastructure, and completing system startup and staff training. The project involves precise technical specifications, such as 3-phase 208V electrical connections, specific pipe and connection types, and rigorous installation procedures. The method statement includes safety protocols, personal protective equipment requirements, and a phased approach to minimize disruption to the dialysis clinic's operations.

Loop Install Procedure

Notify Central Plant of activity

Slide the second securing spring over the unsecured end of the bend former/pipe. Make adjustments so that the pipe changes direction appropriately

Feed the PEX pipe through the obstructions pass-through’s and to the first connection point. Leave extra pipe at the end of the run / connection points (between 150mm – 250mm) to facilitate proper connection location.

Taking appropriate measurements & using a metal saw / reciprocating or band saw, measure and cut the support channel needed for the area you are working following the Pipe Support Channel procedure outlined in section 13 of Rautitan systems planning and assembly instructions.

Clip support channel onto the pipe and secure pipe/support channel to the pipe brackets installed following the procedure outlined in sections 13 & 14 of Rautitan systems planning and assembly instructions.

Connect pipe to the appropriate connecting points (bends, differential bulbs, termination connectors, V4A connectors) following the procedure outlined in section 10 of Rautitan systems planning and assembly instructions, confirm the proper direction of flow when connecting the differential bulbs as outlined in Lauer drawing secondary loop diagram & document 03755-00

Maximum pipe clamp interval must be < 2m and the first pipe fastener must not exceed .5m from the pipe end or when changing directions.

Bend pipe so that it rests against the bend former. Use a heat gun if needed to assist in bending the PEX to the bend former.

Slide the second securing spring over the unsecured end of the bend former/pipe.

Consult the floor plan; examine the projected path for the primary ring line and mounting locations for the differential bulbs and MPC’s.

Using a 4” hole saw or reciprocating saw and measuring tape, locate and generate pass-through’s of obstructions (i.e.

cabinets, walls, casings and ceilings) that will interfere with the path of the ring line.

Using the coach bolts and appropriate sized pipe clamps included in the installation kit and following the installation procedures outlined in sections 13 & 14 of Rautitan systems planning and assembly instructions mount the pipe brackets along the projected path of the ring line.

Taking appropriate measurements fasten the Hilti coach bolts and pipe brackets so that the ring line will run straight and parallel to the floor and nearest wall.

Change direction of the pipe at the appropriate locations following the bending procedure outlined in section 12 of Rautitan systems planning and assembly instructions, so that the pipe channel is straight and looks professional.

At the appropriate location, fasten one end of the bend former between the securing spring and pipe.
