1. Are the skylights being removed and new skylights installed? Or are the wholes being decked in and roofed over? The Roof Plan 23-9 and the roof and skylight plan shows the first scenario, the roof plan within the combined plans shows the second scenario. Please clarify.

The skylights are being removed and docked over per print page A1.102

1. Is the building currently occupied? Yes

1. Section 07 22 00 – Roof & Deck Insulation Part 2 – Products

2.1 System Performance

A. Insulation thermal performance Overall Average R-Value: (R-33) minimum (is this R value the minimum or average, it states both however they are completely different. Please clarify.

This is standard verbiage from the VA TIL. My interpretation of what the VA spec writers were trying to convey was that…

1. The overall average R-value of the installed roof insulation system is to be no less then R-33, because of the taper and existing conditions, some areas maybe higher and some lower than R-33 due to the change in thickness needed for the tapper.

2. At the thinnest points, it is to be a minimum of R-10 (For example roof drains).

B. Roof plans within the combined plans states R-25 minimum. Any Location R-Value: R-10 minimum, what does any location R value mean? Please clarify.

My interpretation of the VA spec is that at the thinnest points, it is to be a minimum of R-10 (For example, maybe at roof drains) and then the taper starts getting thicker from there.

4. Section 07 22 00 Roof & Deck Insulation

2.4 Roof & Deck Insulation

C. Tapered Roof Insulation Systems:

3. Minimum Thickness of taper sections (1-1/2”) This is VA TIL standard language of my interpretation of this would be that the VA does not want tapered insulation pieces that start at 1” and slope to nothing, but a minimum they want these pieces to start at minimum of 1-1/2” and slope to nothing.

3.4 Insulation installation

B. Insulation Thickness

4. where tapered insulation is used

a. low point thickness: minimum 1” I would interpret this as meaning around drains there is to be a minimum of 1” insulation that is at least an R-10 and then the slope would start up from there. Also, in the spec it says it says to use the manufactures recommendation for spanning flutes in the deck, so that may need to be thicker depending on the product.

5. Section 07 54 19 PVC Roofing

1.6 – Quality Assurance B. Manufacturer’s Field Representative:

1. Manufacturer’s full-time technical employee or independent roofing inspector (Are you expecting a full-time on the roof inspector? No manufacturer provides this. And it is considered a conflict of interest if the roofing contractor contracts a roof consultant for this will the Owner be providing this? Please clarify.

We do not expect a full-time technical employee. Whatever the standard for the roof warranty is all that is needed.
