About this file
This document contains questions and answers regarding Request for Information #3 for Invitation for Bid 36C25723B0065 to complete corrective work at a Department of Veterans Affairs facility in Big Spring, Texas. The questions and answers clarify that high-security fencing is not required, only high-security gates. Additionally, 24-gauge decking is confirmed as acceptable for the canopy roof, rather than the 20-gauge specified, as 24-gauge is the industrial standard and can be validated by the PEMB manufacturer's engineer.

Request For Information #3
Invitation For Bid 36C25723B0065
Project 549-21-210
1. Q: GC is required to provide allowance for commissioning of PIV and electrical work. Section 01
45 00-3.5 calls for "Section 01 91 00 General Commissioning Requirements included in the contract, ", and this section is not included in the project specs sent out.
A: Please see screenshot of paragraph. The reference states “When Section 01 91 00 General
Commissioning Requirements is included in the contract, …” The section is not included in the contract; therefore, the requirements do not apply.
2. Q: We have the question of the discrepancy between the note on CS104 and CS116 which both conflict with the note on ES101:
Please confirm that no high-security fencing will be in this SOW, only high-security gates.
A: High-security fencing is not in this SOW only the high-security gates.
3. Q: We have three (3) PEMB Manufacturers to tell us that 20-gauge is not available (or custom) for the roof panels. It is typically used as metal decking under elevated concrete slabs. For metal roof decking, 22-gauge and 24-gauge are available, and 26-gauge is standard. The Specifications delegate the design to a licensed manufacturer with a registered Engineer but in another
Section, the Specifications indicate a 20-gauge roof panel that would be custom. Can you please clarify?
A: Our architect researched and determined that the 24-gauge decking seems reasonable, and he also found that to be the industrial standard. Our recommendation would be for the contractor to use 24-gauge for the roof decking for the canopy. Of course, the engineer from the PEMB manufacturer will be responsible for validating the connects/supports/etc. for the canopy structure are as required to accommodate the 24-gauge deck. And the contractor will, of course, submit shop drawings of the canopy for VA approval before installation.
