About this file
This document is a Request for Information (RFI) detailing technical specifications for a water distribution system installation at a VA facility. The scope involves installing a continuous water distribution loop using gray SCH80 PVC and fusion-welded polypropylene piping, with specific routing requirements through a mechanical bay and connecting to various equipment points including six sinks, two ultrasonic devices, washer disinfects, and cart washers. Each point of use will require both supply and return lines with water sample ports.
Technical requirements include pressure testing the new piping at 1.5 times operating conditions, constructing a concrete housekeeping pad with a minimum 28-day compressive strength of 3,000 psi, and using a ground pump for concrete placement. The solicitation (36C25625Q0479) is issued by the Department of Veterans Affairs Veterans Health Administration for Reverse Osmosis and DI Water equipment lease and service. Contractors will need to provide detailed pipe sizing based on equipment specifications to be provided, with specific guidelines for pipe material transitions at key connection points in the mechanical bay and distribution system.

Text version
· The scope of work specifies both gray SCH80 PVC and fusion-welded polypropylene piping. Are there specific portions of the loop that require one over the other or may the contractor install either at their discretion? At the mechanical bay where the equipment will be located, contractor will use gray SCH80 PVC to connect all components of the critical water processing. At the highest point in the mechanical bay all horizontal piping leaving the mechanical bay towards SPS and Endoscope will consist of fusion-welded polypropylene (distribution, drops, return loop). Once the return loop comes back to the mechanical bay, at the highest point, the pipe will go from fusion-welded polypropylene to gray SCH80 and connect to the tank.
· Please confirm that the scope requires a continuous loop for the entire water distribution system, including a loop to each point of use. Yes, loop to each point of use.
· What type of pipe is to be used for the supply and return water lines for the new equipment? gray SCH80 PVC and fusion-welded polypropylene piping
1. What size pipe is to be used for the supply and return water lines for the new equipment? A list of Steris equipment, water demand specification, drawings will be provided. You will have enough information to determine pipe size.
2. What size pipe is to be used for the supply and return water lines for endoscope? The endoscope will consist of two sinks. Same as question 1.
3. Are return lines required to be run from the existing supply drops in the labs to enable continuous flow through the entire piping system? Washer disinfects and cart washers will require a return loop and water sample ports. All six (6) sinks and two ultrasonic will require a new supply and return lines. Ultrasonic supply line will have a water sample port as well.
4. What is the pressure test requirements? Test new installed piping under 1-1/2 times actual operating conditions and prove tight.
5. What are the specifications for the concrete housekeeping pad required for the equipment? Compressive strength at 28 days: minimum // 25 MPa (3,000 psi) Submit mix design and results of compression tests to the Contracting Officer for his evaluation. Identify all materials, including admixtures, making up the concrete.
Can a pump truck be utilized to deliver the concrete down to the basement? No to a pump truck. but you can use ground pump.
