2.1.1 Visitor/Patient Garage:
(A) Remove conflicting or confusing signs and pavement markings.
(B) Update the pavement striping and add channelization.
(C) Add a passenger loading zone to the 1st floor
(D) Update the compact spacing configuration
(E) Reconfigure handicap parking to increase the number of handicap stalls
(F) Clean and reattach any wheel-stops that have become dislodged
(G) Clean and/or restripe any damaged striping that is existing and will remain
(H) Remove and/or replace any damage signage
2.1.2 Staff Garage:
(A) Update the compact spacing configuration.
(B) Reconfigure handicap parking to eliminate inefficient spaces and increase overall capacity.
(D) Reconfigure the rooftop parking to eliminate dead-end parking aisles and provide circulation route for vehicles.
(E) Clean and reattach any wheel-stops that have become dislodged
(F) Clean and/or restripe any damaged striping that is existing and will remain
(G) Remove and/or replace any damaged signage
2.1.3 Traffic Flow: All ramps for both parking garages are required to have two-way traffic flow. Excluding the roof, all non-ramp aisles for both parking garages should utilize one-way traffic flow. Roofs of both packing garages should have two-way circulating traffic flow, allowing the driver to turn around without impeding traffic.
2.3 Pavement Markings: New pavement marking will be designed to facilitate the traffic flow efficiently. One-way traffic flow will be indicated with arrows in the center of lanes indicating the direction of flow. Two-way traffic will be indicated by dashed centerline markings separating the lanes. Turns, especially blind corners and into two-way traffic areas, will be channelized using solid centerline markings to guide drivers. All center line pavement markers will be striped using white paint.
2.1.4 Standard Parking Spaces: Standard parking spaces will be 9’-0” wide by 18’-0” long parking stalls striped with white paint. All stall striping should be approximately 4” wide. Any stall not indicated as a compact parking stall, a handicap parking stall, or a motorcycle parking stall will be considered a standard parking stall.
2.1.5 Compact Parking Spaces: Compact parking spaces will be a minimum of 8’-0” wide by 15’-0” long parking stalls striped with white paint, and all stall striping should be approximately 4” wide. Additionally, the word “COMPACT” will be striped onto the pavement in the center of all compact parking stalls. This “COMPACT” striping should be approximately 5’-2” wide by 1’-0” tall.
2.1.6 Handicap Parking Spaces: Handicap parking spaces will be striped so that the parking lane and the access lane are combined 16’-0” wide and 18’-0” long. This includes either an 11’-0” wide parking stall with a 5’-0” wide access lane, or an 8’-0” wide parking stall with an 8’-0” wide access lane. All stall striping should be striped with blue paint and be approximately 4” wide, including the diagonal lines indicating the access lane. Additionally, all handicap parking stalls will have the handicap symbol striped in the center.
2.1.7 Motorcycle Parking Spaces: Motorcycle parking spaces will be 5’-0” wide by 18’-0” long parking stalls striped with white paint, and all striping should be approximately 4” wide. Additionally, the words “MOTORCYCLE PARKING” will be striped onto the pavement in front of all motorcycle parking on each floor to match existing.
2.1.8 Parking Bumpers: All wheel stops that have been dislodged from their existing locations will be reattached using the following guidelines: (1) Wheel stops will be centered between parking striping and adhered to the concrete slab using a VA approved epoxy. (2) Wheel stops will be 2’4” from the face of the wall at the perimeter or from the center line of the column. At no point will drilling be permitted in an effort to protect the parking deck.
2.1.9 Signage: All existing and new signage will be installed to meet the VA requirements as outlined in the “Parking Structures” design manual pulled from the VA’s Technical Information Library (TIL). Existing signage that does not conflict with the new striping plan will remain. Existing signage that conflicts with the new striping plan will be removed and replaced with new signage to match the existing. All signs will be color coded by floor.
2.1.10 Patient Garage Loading Zone: The visitor parking garage will have a new loading zone constructed adjacent to the 1st floor entrance. Loading zone will be striped with white paint. Once vehicles get into the garage, channelized pavement markings will separate drivers into two lanes. One for loading/unloading patients, and the other for through traffic trying to access the upper floors of the garage. This loading zone will eliminate eight existing handicap parking spaces and four standard parking spaces. The loss of these handicap spaces was added to the upper floors by reconfiguring the existing handicap stalls.
2.1.11 Staff Garage Rooftop Parking Layout: The staff parking garage will have a new parking layout constructed on the 7th floor to allow for better through traffic and additional parking capacity. This new design will be striped with white paint. Once vehicles get onto the 7th floor, the new striping will guide vehicles through a full U-turn that will direct vehicles back to the ramp that is existing the roof.

2.2.1 Contractor shall adhere to the demolition in the associated specifications and drawings.
2.2.2 Contractor shall notify, immediately, the VA Contracting Officer Representative (COR) upon discovery of any suspect condition that could potentially cause a faulty re-installation and shall accept complete responsibility for any faulty installation failing contractor’s adherence to the aforementioned.
