About this file

This document is a Request for Information (RFI) and Answers file for Project #657-22-112JC, "Prepare Site For New Cath Labs, Rooms B51," at the St. Louis VA Medical Center (VAMC), John Cochran Division.

The RFI document addresses 12 questions and clarifications regarding design drawings and construction specifications for the catheterization laboratory renovation project. Key clarifications include: correction of cross-referenced drawing notes (01.02 should reference note 09.02 rather than 09.01; note 26.09 should read 26.07); confirmation that all existing dashed-line ceilings in Labs 1 and 2 will be demolished and replaced with new ACT-1 Calla health zone tile per the Material Schedule on sheet 1-AE-05; verification that the primary ICRA vestibule door location at B508A is shown within the existing gypsum wallboard opening and will be installed per the General Contractor's needs and ICRA requirements; clarification that the General Contractor's miscellaneous metal fabricator is responsible for verifying reusability of existing unistrut and submitting any required structural steel shop drawings; confirmation that the existing laminar flow system (manufactured by Chicago Faucets) will remain in place with no modifications anticipated unless addressed through change order; and specification that the General Contractor must provide a balance report of existing and final air flow conditions. The document also clarifies that Philips equipment rough-in details are defined on Philips sheets AL and that existing non-Philips ceiling-mounted devices such as can lights, fire alarm devices, sensors, exit signs, and medical gas lines will be removed or relocated by the General Contractor.

Project #657-22-112JC Prepare Site For New Cath Labs, Rooms B51, at the St Louis VA Medical Center (VAMC), John Cochran

RFI’s

1. Sheet 1AE-102 note 01.02 references note 09.01 for more info on flooring. Note

09.01 is a note about ceiling framing. Should this be note 09.02? Correct; Keyed Note 01.02 on sheet 1-AE-102 should refer to Keyed Note 09.02.

2. Sheet 1AE-102 note 01.05 new door at primary icra. Please verify location of this new door. The Primary door for the ICRA vestibule B508A is shown new/used installed within the existing GWB opening. The entire primary ICRA vestibule and temporary ICRA partitions and opening to be installed per the GC’s needs (means and method) and ICRA requirements and submitted for final approval. Note; the Alternate ICRA filtration for Level IV is now located in corridor H509, so the need for a temporary ICRA barrier to Control 1 B509 may not be needed by the GC.

3. Sheet 01-EK-5518, structural engineer to verify reusability of unistrut on site. Will the owner’s structural engineer be responsible for verifying this? This will be the responsibility of GC’s miscellaneous metal fabricator. The AE’s engineer will visit the site once the existing structure is exposed to confirm that the structure in place does conform to the current load requirements, but any minor additions to carry the added 2’ of new equipment rail, will be submitted by the metal fabricator.

4. It was mentioned at the walk through that there is to be very little structural steel added for this project and that it is called out and detailed on the drawings, possible reference note 09.01? Please indicate what drawing shows the added steel and details for this steel. Will this steel be added for both lab’s? See the answer to RFI_003 above for clarification. Lab 2 should not require any additional structural bracing, but this will be confirmed as noted above. See sheet 01-EK-5563 PHILIPS sheet SD4. When the exact location for the support is determined, the contractor’s steel fabricator shall submit shop drawings for approval.

5. Sheet 1-AE-103 detail 5F has a blue line with note #26.09 on it. Please advise what note 26.09 is? Note 26.09 on sheet 1-AE-103 should read 26.07 as shown on sheet

1-AE-104.

6. Sheet 1-AE-103 ceiling type legend shows mark ACT 48. Is this supposed to be ACT-

1. Correct; Ceiling Type legend (mark) should be ACT-1, see Material Schedule on sheet 1-AE-05 for more information

7. It was mentioned at the pre-bid walk through that the existing acoustical ceiling tile is unknown and cannot be found. We also cannot find any information on this tile.

Please verify that we are demo all ceilings and install ACT-1 Calla health zone tile in the two labs? Correct as noted on drawings and noted here; all dashed lines on 1F/1-AE-103 denote demo ceilings in Labs 1 and 2 and install new per Material Schedule on sheet 1-AE-05. Existing ceiling mounted equipment shown dashed to be removed by Philips vender. Existing non-Philips devices in the ceiling to be removed/relocated by GC such as (but not limited to): can lights, fire alarm devices, sensors, exit signs, med gases, etc.

8. Sheet 1-AE-102 note 01.10 rough-in for Phillips, is this rough-in existing or new? If new, who is to furnish and install it? IF we are to furnish and install it please provide details. “Furnish and install” is defined on Philips sheets AL. However, the new equipment appears to rough-in nearly like the existing with only the boom for Room B510 different. See sheets 1-AE-102 for anticipated drift.

9. It was mentioned at the prebid that there is a laminar system? Please indicate where the information is for the laminar system in the specs and drawings? The laminar Flow system is existing. There are no shop drawings available for this product. The contractor is required to provide a balance report of the existing air flow conditions and final air flow conditions.

10. If the laminar system is new, who is providing the new laminar system? If it is the GC, please provide specifications and drawings to indicate manufacturer and model. Existing

11. If the laminar system is new , who is installing the new laminar system? Existing

12. If the laminar system is existing and is to be modified please provide directions on modifications. Please provide manufacturer contact so that we can make sure we modify per manufacture’s specifications. The laminar system is existing and we do not expect any modifications. If any modification is required, it will be addressed through a change order. The manufacturer for the existing laminar flow system is Chicago Faucets.
