About this file
This document is an amendment to a solicitation for construction services. The solicitation is to renovate Building 131-4A at the Captain James A. Lovell Federal Health Care Center in North Chicago, Illinois to improve patient safety and emergency operations capabilities. The amendment provides responses to bidder questions to clarify the scope of work. Specifically, it clarifies that top of door alarms should be provided only for the thirteen doors identified on the door schedule drawing, and not for all doors as implied by the general notes. Additionally, the amendment changes the bid opening date from March 4th to March 8th at 11:00 AM Central Time at the Department of Veterans Affairs Great Lakes Acquisition Center in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Amendment of Solicitation Amendment 0004 Solicitation No. 36C25222B0008 Project No. 556-17-002: (CONST) Renovate Bldg. 131 – 4 A Patient Safety – EOC at the Captain James A. Lovell FHCC, North Chicago, IL
The Purpose of this amendment (0004) is to publish the following in reference to solicitation 36C25222B0008:
a) Provide Response to Request for Information (RFI) question No. 55.
a) Question No. 55 Door Alarms:
VA: Can your team please take a look at this? The issue seems to be arising from a discrepancy/confusion between the sheet notes 1 and 2 on EY101 and the door schedule on AE601. The HW list on AE601 identifies 13 doors that are receiving The Door Switch (mostly the patient rooms) but sheet notes 1 and 2 on EY101 identify nearly every door as requiring a keyed alarm reset switch and duress system keypad as well as a junction box mounted in the ceiling for ligature-resistant door system strobe light.
Bidder: The hardware sets do not match up with the door schedule. It looks like there is either 13 doors or could be 34-36 doors. It also states that there should be a keypad and a key switch at every door. The keypads are only to be located at the nurses station. This system only allows a total of 8 keypads. These are a couple things that The Door Switch manufacturer and I have noticed.
I forgot to mention, if you need help revising the design for this project (which is not correct), please call me anytime. I helped with the original specifications for the VAMC RFP back in 2019.
Thank you for your time. I may have received this invitation to bid a little too late. We did the original Door Switch installation with our partner Industria Construction Services. Looking at the SOW, it may have been designed incorrectly. It looks like the hardware sets have 34-36 doors, but the schedule only has 13 doors. How many total doors are being covered with The Door Switch? Also, there are keypads at every patient room door and closet/electrical room doors that have The Door Switch, which is all not conducive or typical to the design of The Door Switch system. Is it possible to have a discussion about the design and possibly an extension to the due date? Please let me know how we can help.
ANSWER: Provide top of door alarms per architectural drawing AE601 Door Schedule. On drawing detail F2/EY101, add sheet keynotes 1 and 2 to door entering Room A407 from Corridor C4-3.
Do not provide keyed alarm reset switches (sheet keynote 1) and door alarm junction boxes (sheet keynote 2) for doors that do not receive top of door alarms. Again, the doors receiving top of door alarms are shown on AE601 Door Schedule.
b) Change Bid Opening date from 03-04-2022 to 03-08-2022 (time and location remains unchanged).
