III. THE FOLLOWING QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS / CLARIFICATIONS ARE THE RESULT OF BIDDERS REQUEST(S) FOR INFORMATION:

Q1. “The specification of Section 11 73 00 Ceiling Mounted Patient Lift System indicates in point 1.1 B. to relocate existing units, but per point 1.4 and subsequent points in Part 2 it appears that new “Guldmann or approved equal” units are expected. Please clarify if the design intent is to reuse existing, have new ceiling lifts, or a combination of the two options. If the last option is correct, please indicate the type and quantity of the new units.”

A1. These are all new lifts. Qty and type listed on drawings and specifications. See S100 and specification for all related weight limits.

Q2. “I was hoping you could provide me with a little more clarification on what the owners expectation is for any duct cleaning on this project. The spec is a typical VA spec which lacks the detail to know what really needs cleaning on the project (see below).

Looks like pretty much all of 5th floor is existing and 4th floor will be new so we are to clean everything? “

A2. Duct cleaning intent:

The existing ductwork tie-ins on 4th floor to AC-117 (northwest project area) ductwork should be fully cleaned through the project limits to diffusers/grilles. The 5th floor AHUs (AC-117 and AC-118) cleaning for new controls updates to be included. Existing exhaust ductwork tie-ins at the west end of the project (12x13 duct) to be cleaned from inlets grilles to project limits.

AC-119 system (equipment and ductwork) to be protected, but where mechanical/electrical/controls contractor works within the system, then that part of the system should be cleaned prior to operation.

Q3. “We had a question pertaining to the headwalls. Will there be 2 panels or 3?

The patient bed surface mounted headwall system spec calls for a horizontal unit (BOD Modular Profile Plus) with at least (3) rails.

However, the unit in the architectural elevations as drawn has a single row of services with only (2) rails.

Should we price based off the architectural elevations? Or price a unit that will also meet the specs?”

A3. VA staff reviewed the design drawings and confirmed the number of devices/ outlets.

We believe that a single row of services and 2 rails are sufficient, for patient and staff requirements. We suggest to price per the architectural elevations, electrical and medical gas drawings.

Q4. “Point 1.26 of section 01 00 00 indicates to supply storage space for VA’s equipment within the staging area. Please advice on the size of the unit(s) and the time length that the storage units shall be available.”

A4. The contractor shall utilize space within the construction confines for staging material. Additional space on the VA grounds can be requested for a ‘contractor provided’ 8’x15’ securable storage container if the VA feels there is adequate space to support a container at the time of the request (this additional space is not a ‘for sure’ commitment by the VA).

Q5. “Sheet A753 indicates that glove dispensers (item 07), and exchange carts (item 73) are provided by GC, please confirm. In this is correct please provide specifications of the product(s)” A5. See the corrections made to the drawing A753 to the Equipment Schedule as noted on Item #4 above.

Q6. “Sheet A753 indicates that the item 45 (Lockers, double tier) are #5180 Double Tier by Lyon. Per Lyon’s web site this type of lockers are either 12” or 15” wide. The lockers in sheet A752 scale to approximately 8” wide. Please clarify the quantity and size of the lockers.”

A8. See the corrections made to the drawing A753 to the Equipment Schedule as noted on Item #4 above.

Q9. “Sheet E.0.0- Lighting fixture F9 Besa – only available in 3000k, schedule says 2800k for color temp. Is 3000k ok or should a bid either the Canarm or Kuzco that take an LED screw in lamp in hopes that color temp is available?

A9. This is a mistake in the schedule, 3000K should be used.

Q10. “Sheet E.0.0- Lighting fixture F3 designates note # 14 but I don’t see that on the schedule? Please advise what note #14 should be?

A10. Note 14 is designated with fixture F4 and not F3. There is an implied note “14.” In the Lighting Schedule Notes underneath number 13 to the right of the schedules, the number 14 was left off. The intent of this note is associated with the 1st option fixture basis “Remote Driver to be located in ….”. It is important to note that the fixture should satisfy the key requirement for wet location in addition to the photometric. Variables may exist that negate the note “14”. Approved equals matching schedule and specifications to be submitted.

Q11. “Sheet E.0.0- Lighting fixture F6 has a note calling for low iridescent reflector. As specified this is only available with a white reflector. Will that be ok?

A11. Fixture should match design, photometrics and specifications for bids. Approved equals to be determined at submitted.

Q12. “Sheet E.0.0- Lighting fixture F15 as scheduled in 24 inch is only available in BZ finish. (12 inch is only one available in white). Are (2) 12” connected acceptable or some other product preferred?

A12. Fixture should match design, photometrics and specifications for bids. Color selection to be determined at submittal.

Q13.

A13. The Prime Contractors Superintendent or Project Manager can also be the designated SSHO No the QCM must be separate from the superintendent/SSHO.

Q14.

Sheet: N/A Spec: N/A Topic: Work Hours Question: Please confirm work hours for this project. Does work on the floor above and below (3rd and 5th floors) need to occur on off hours? What about noisy work to include coring, demolition, steel studs?

A14. Coordinate 3rd floor and 5th with COR off hours. Phasing time to complete the work to be scheduled nights and weekends preferred includes material delivery to the site and noise mitigation. See Section II above- Project Drawing Revisions- AD101, note 2d

Q15. Sheet: A601 Spec: 08 71 00 Topic: Door Hardware Question: Hardware set HW-4J is listed in the specifications but not shown on the Door Schedule on page A601. Please confirm Hardware set HW-4J is not used on this project.

A23. To be applied to the exterior toilet room windows prior to the construction of the room side partition that will conceal the windows from room side view. Refer to Detail 11/A501.

Q24. Sheet: PD103 Spec: N/A Topic: General Note 2 – Quantifying Penetrations Question: GN2 states “. . . contractor is to assume a reasonable number of piping penetrations and horizontal runs are different from those shown on the drawings, and is to include cost for those changes in budget.” Can you quantify “reasonable” for bidding purposes so bids are equitable?

A24. General Note 2 is indicating the exact locations may not be shown. Quantity of up to 30 locations can be assumed to require potential minor offsets.

Q25. Sheet: E002 Spec: N/A Topic: Panel Schedules Question: E002 has the Panel Schedule table that is entitled “Existing Panel Schedules to be Renovated and Provided New”. That is contradictory. Are the panel schedules existing or are they to be provided new?

A25. Purpose of this “schedule” was to indicate summary/ existing conditions for planning. See drawings EP600, EP601, and EP602 for referenced new panel work and schedules.

Q26. Sheet: P104 Spec: 22 40 00 Topic: Dialysis Boxes Question: Please provide cut sheet for dialysis boxes to be furnished and installed by contractor.
